Help with a new convertable top.

My Mustang's top is being held together by duct tape so I think that it is time to replace it. I went to a shop in Santee and they wanted 880 bucks for parts and labor. Does that sound right? I can get the parts for about 400 but I am hearing that it is a tough job. Can anybody recommend a shop to do this?

880 does sound a little steep. Hopefully we can get you a shop to do it cheaper. You said you already bought the top didnt you? Just need someone to install it?

I sent it back. The one I bought was a POS. I just hate to spend that much on the top but it just looks bad!

Its unfortunate because the rest of the car is pretty clean. Hopefully we can find you something. Personally, I dont know any shops but I bet someone does.

When I had my 97 GT Vert, in '03 I had a shop in North Hollywwod install a new top minus the glass, for $550.

It's a far drive out there but it gives you and idea of what it should cost. I don't think inflation has changed it much since '03

I need the back window also, that is why it is 880. Maybe I should sell it and just get a 5spd non-vert.

Well.... Thats a tough decision. You might not find another fox clean like yours for the price you got yours.

cj pony parts has the top for $369 with a glass back window, then take it down to TJ and get it done LOL.

I called around to different shops and they all want about 450-500 just for labor. I might just order the one from CJ's and try the install myself.

if you can find somebody that is parting out a vert with a decent top they unbolt fairly easy if you take the frame and all, never know you might get lucky.

i had a clean black top and frame a few months back gut sold it.

There is actually an LX vert being parted out right now on Craigslist. White top too, but dont know the condition of it.

And if you want to try and put it on yourself, I would be willing to help. Maybe we could find a good write up online and try and knock it out. Just let me know!

I am putting a black top on it. I am not really digging the white on it.
