Here's a nasty looking spider

While Xodus was catching his spider, I came across this while cleaning out the back yard. I came about a foot from walking into it with my face! I went on to this site to post this and saw that X had a spider post too !

I have no idea what it is. As I put it in the jar, it secreted a white liquid from it's butt!

Why ya treat me like that?
PapaTom,

Your argiope is very pretty. I'm always very happy to find them in the gardens as they are of the 'beneficial' group of spiders which help us by eating the less desirable garden riffraff. I'm glad you did not kill it. :)

as hidious, nasty, ugly, majestic or gorgeous as any animal or insect is, I have a hard time killing anything unless the family would be in immediate danger.

I have this one in a vented jar for now and left a few dead insects for a feast, but it's best I release it into the canyons as it serves a purpose in its existence.

its made a great pet so far :trytofly:
