I sent this to the Union Tribune...

Wondering where I am!?!?
....what are the chances it gets published as a Letter to the Editor?

Slim to None in my opinion!!

Electric Cars vs Energy Consumption

I just got done watching another story about "Electric Cars" that go 40 miles
and you plug them into an outlet in your garage to charge overnight.

Why is it the stories never follow up and tell us how much our Electric Bill will go
up a month by doing this? How much more coal, natural gas and oil are we
burning to support these vehicles?

Shouldn't we be focused on Alternative Energy first and then develop the
vehicles?

These cars sound like the Proverbial "cart before the horse"!

Ha, it'll go straight to the circular file cabinet!

Why? Cuz it makes sense and liberal fish wrappers don't wanna hear about what makes sense.

Kinda what I thought too.

I have had two Letters published so all I can do is hope!

I would really like to see a paper pick this story up though!

It will cause too much consternation and too much brain work to figure it out. These idiots aren't smart enough to Google the cost of producing a kilowatt and then do the math. It's too hard for them to pick up this story and run with it. If the answer isn't attainable in 30 seconds, they won't even entertain it.

Maybe that's why they're going under?

I was thinking of sending it to the Seattle Times but there are more Tree Huggers up there than the California Congress!!

Yep, and what are they doing with these BATTERIES when they wear out after 5 years or so? going to a dump? The 5K it takes to replace them are higher than my fuel costs and maintenance costs over a 5 year period......

And I am pretty sure the Hybrid/Electric cars are not very efficient at 80+ MPH.....like I see these cars going down the highway....

I HATE HYBRIDS!!!! or ELECTRIC CARS!!!!

The hydrogen fuel cell is the best option so far, but it is largely ignored. The technology has been around since before WW II.... hybrids? the cost alone is prohibitive, they claim "research and development" to justify the cost, and then start a campaign to make us feel guilty if we dont buy them. I raise the BS flag on this! The "hybrid technology" has been in use on Submarines for over 100 years! And in use on railroad Locomotives for over 80 years. How much " reasearch and developement" did they really need????
You are right about the plug ins too... A 4 amp battery takes 8 hours to charge at 2 amps, with a severe loss of energy disapated as heat to bring Houshold AC power down to DC Voltage useful for charging the beast. i don't have exact numbers but it does add up to a tremendouse waste of power for every charge. And we are looking at battery banks with Amps in the hundreds or thousands! Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, it is a basic premise of physics. The energy has to come from somewhere?
