In a recent article, we had featured Ian Duncan's classic rally Mustang as it was being tech inspected for the 2009 Kenya Airways East African Classic Safari Rally. His efforts has confirmed that we were right in choosing to favor Duncan. With a combined time of 17hrs:47mins:40sec, Ian Duncan is the 2009 Kenya Airways East African Classic Safari Rally champion. This race had taken place in Kenya and Tanzania over the last 10 days. Further, this is the first rally win for any Mustang globally.
“I am delighted with the victory. It has been one of the toughest events of my career. I am so grateful to my sponsors and members of the service crew who have played a massive role in my victory. It is a great victory,’’ said Duncan.
His victory is a third for Kenyan drivers and, as stated before, the first-ever Mustang win. The only obstacles in the 10-day race were an electrical failure and just one puncture. The electrical failure on day-8 was the biggest obstacle the team had to overcome as the instance happened shortly after getting in to the competitive stage.
“Duncan drove like a crazy driver. It was hard to catch him. He is a good driver and good mechanic to have prepared the Mustang so well. I want come back and try and win the rally again.’’ said Bjorn Waldegaard who placed 2nd on the podum a short 10-minutes behind Duncan.
