Intake, Throttle Body & MAF Question???

So now that I'm working and have a steady source of income coming in, it's time to get another mod for my 2003 GT. I want to get an intake system, and a different throttle body. It seems like these two mods are the most common, cost effective ways to add a little more hp.

My first question is which intake system to get?
The choice is between a cold air system (shown below)

or a FIPK system? (shown below)

Is there any advantages/disadvantages of either system??? Also is there any brand that you would recommend?

Secondly, I'm looking to get a throttle body. By what I've found I can either a 70mm or a 75mm throttle body. Which size is better, and what brand is better? I have zero knowledge of these and what they do.

Lastly, do I need to get a different Mass Airflow Meter (MAF)? It seems like they come in 85mm and 90mm versions. Which size is better, and what brand is better?

You do not need to get a new MAF at this point and you would be wasting money. I would say go for the Cold air kit that goes into the fender for the simple fact it will get cooler air in the fender vs the hot engine compartment. Lastly I would say be careful swapping TB's as sometimes without supporting mods you can lose HP and TQ by going too big and slowing down the velocity of the incoming air. Keep in mind I have zero experience with the newer mod motors though.

Yep! I think so too. Try to draw your intake air from outside the engine compartment, cooler that way. Also, there is probably an advantage to a plastic or pvc intake tube rather than a metal one. The metal tubes will heat up in the engine compartment and then heat the air as it passed inside it. Ruins the whole idea of being a cold air kit.

I used to have a C&L aluminum intake and while it "looked" neat, it got HOT!

I was looking at the aluminum ones too because they seemed to be more eye catching. I didn't think about the actual tube heating up. I'll probably go the pvc/plastic direction now. Thanks.

i have seen a few dyno's between 75mm and 70mm t/b's and the 70mm out performs the the 75mm and i also agree that you should get the fenderwell CAI.

It seems like the fender intake kit is the way to go, but is there any down sides to it?

well if you get a metal one it heats up get plastic and if you have the cash get the one that goes to the bottom of the fender and comes out under the bumper thats the best cool air

we are only talking a couple of HP here, so I say get one that you like that goes in the fender well. Don't put too much thought into it. It's not going to work any miracles, but it will get you on your way with modifying your stang.

I have a C&L true flow intake and it works great for me. also all shelbies use cold air intakes that remain under the hood as well. there is no problem with them staying under the hood as long as you have the heat shield for it.

I would say get a C&L true flow and get a accufab or bbk throttle body

I'll definitely look into those brands. Thanks. I also understand that these mods won't perform miracles, but I'm just hoping with them, and the addition of a tune from my Xcal2 I should see some sort of difference. Am I wrong?

yea mines aluminum and man that thing gets hot after a lil racing

i read where you guys were talking about bigger tb's causing issues....and i think i might have a solution(it worked for me at least). i bought a performance chip from slr motorsports and it hooked up directly into the IAT sensor and ill tell you what the car is pulling in some serious air now.

Whoa! 50+ HP & TQ?!? For reals??? That seems amazing. Where in the engine compartment is the IAT sensor??? Was it easy to install?

whoa whoa whoa hold your horses read closer at the disclaimer they have seen up to 50+HP & TQ when mixed with modifications of other sorts but as for install it was easy as can be with only two wires but the sensor has either its own two wire plug on the intake tube or it is integrated into your MAF sensor

Haha!!! I hate fine print! Thanks for pointing that out. I think I may just get it to go along with my intake upgrade. Thanks for the link!
