Just got asked to be a Godfather!

So I just bought all the Godfather movies and everything Al Pacino has played in!!

LMFAO! Seriously I am so stoked my friend and her husband just asked me to be their only kids Godfather! She also mentioned that if anything ever happened to them I get their daughter, lol. Serious, she said they want me to raise her and no one else in their family. Honored to say the least! I need the interwebsss to see what being one means... LoL. Any one else a Godfather? -Shane

I'm a God father x6.....LOL! 4 girls and 2 boys. Congrats Shane. It is quite an honor to be asked to be a Godparent. And yes, your friend is right, should anything happen to them, you will be responsible to raise their children. We're Catholic so my name is on the document of baptism as their Godfather.

Thanks guys! I'm very excited! I dont have kids and spoil my niece and nephew and miss them ALOT. So yes it is an honor to have someone say "in case we pass we trust you to raise our daughter". I do however wish there was someone closer that could build that relationship with her because I cant. I'm more so the trusted person to raise in case of passing and not direct mentoring. Wish I could be both but it's just not possible at this time. I decided to start her a college fund while I am deployed. About the only time I can afford to do it. I hope 1000 plus 50 a month will make a dent after 17 years! Thanks again for taking the time to reply :cheers: -Shane

I will warn you on Saving Bonds, look very carefully at which ones you get! I got EE for my daughter and ended up paying taxes on the Interest when I cashed them for her College Tuition. Then the State of Kommifornia penalized me for not claiming the interest I gained when I did.

I would sit down with a Finiancal Advisor and see what works best as soon as possible.

HisPony- I was thinking about going the route of the college fund through USAA. I have been very happy with every other aspect of them.
