Hyundai did it right. They started small and expanded slowly. I think its a little over 20 years since they were introduce in the US. I think I was a junior in HS when they came out.

well, look at the prius, everyone says its so great. in reality its not much better than the yaris, and the yaris is half the price. do you know how long it would take to save that other $10k in gas money??

another fun fact....the new cobalt SS supercharged beat the evoXmr and the STI around a track in a car&driver test. well, it beat a lot more than that. look up the lightning lap on their website and it will explain more.

big deal, AIG got a bailout and then sent their executives to a private resort spa for a wekend and spent like 850,000 on them......WTF is that. At least GM would build more vehicles with the money. Not foreclose on your home after they get help.

The banks stopped giving as many loans out, which in turn screwed the Auto sales, which in turn made the automakers miss the mark on sales and such.....so we bailed out the banks that were failing and no dont want to help the other guy that got screwed because of the banks? That is wrong.......

It's not about American vs. anything. It is about running a business properly and maintaining a base of consumers. The only part of the industry that is failing is new car sales and all car companies are feeling the crunch. The difference is debt ratios and spending habits. Americans are spoiled and so are the companies. Quit spending every dime they ever make and maybe they'll make it through the rainy days.

The more money American auto companies make, the more the employees and unions suck it away. I'm sorry, but putting bolts on a tire wheel is not worth 60K a year!

here is an email I got from one of the congressman.....

November 24, 2008

Dear David:

Thank you for contacting me with your thoughts regarding additional financial support for U.S. auto companies. I welcome the opportunity to respond to you on this matter.

As you already know, Congress recently passed legislation to provide auto companies based in the U.S. with emergency loans. H.R. 2638 (Price-NC), the Consolidated Security, Disaster Assistance and Continuing Appropriations Act for FY2009 (P.L. 110-329), provides auto companies with $25 billion for the purpose of advancing fuel-efficient vehicle technology.

The Department of Treasury recently rejected requests from the auto industry to participate in the newly created Troubled Assets Relief Program. Instead, the Bush Administration has directed the Department of Energy to expedite the $25 billion auto loan program included in H.R. 2638 as alternative industry assistance programs are further considered.

As a long-time supporter of the American auto industry, I recognize that our domestic vehicle manufacturers represent an integral part of our nation's manufacturing base. There is no question that these companies are an important part of our economy, providing hundreds of thousands of jobs to American workers while also sustaining many auto-suppliers and dealerships across the country. While I have concerns with providing unconditional financial assistance to companies, including troubled financial institutions, at the expense of taxpayers, it is important that Congress continues to closely examine the condition of our nation's auto industry and take appropriate steps to address its shortcomings.

Rest assured that as this matter is further discussed, I will keep your specific thoughts close in mind. Again, thank you for contacting me. If you should have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to let me know.

Sincerely,

Duncan Hunter
Member of Congress
