Lock Your Car Doors Manually...

I just got this sent to my personal e-mail and figured it was worth sharing...

Subject: Lock your doors from the inside

This is very troubling what lengths people will go to to steal what doesn't belong to them ! I do almost 100% of the time lock my car on the door lock inside when I exit the car. Little did I know that is the best way to lock your car. Read on......

Beware folks. This is news you can use.

(THIS HAS BEEN CHECKED ON SNOPES)

My oldest son came over yesterday- he had to go to Canada for work last week. One of the other engineer's traveling to Canada with him, but in his own car had something happen...that I need to share.

While traveling he stopped at the roadside park, similar to what we have here with bathrooms, vending machines etc. He came out to his car less than 4-5 minutes later and found someone had gotten into his car, and stolen his cell phone, laptop computer, gps navigator briefcase.....you name it.

They called the police and since there were no signs of his car being broke into- the police told him that there is a divice that robbers are using now to clone your security code when you lock your doors on your car using your key-chain locking device..They set a distance away and watch for their next victim. Since they know you are going inside of the store, restaurant, or bathroom and have a few minutes to steal and run. The police office said...to be sure to manually lock your car door-by hitting the lock button inside the car, that way if there is someone setting in a parking lot watching for their next victim it will not be you.

When you hit the lock button on your car upon exiting...it does not send the security code, but if you walk away and use the door lock on your key chain- it sends the code thru the airwaves where it can be stolen.

I just wanted to let you know about this...it is something totally new to us...and this is real...it just happened this past Thursday June 19th to his co-worker...so be aware of this and please pass this note on...look how many times we all lock our doors with our keys...just to be sure we remembered to lock them....and bingo the guys have our code...and whatever was in the car...can be gone.

I just wanted everyone I know to hear this from me... I never knew about anything like this...and do not want this to happen to anyone I know .if we can educate each other on bad things happening.

And they can get your address to your garage doors too. I always close mine with the inside part but always open it with the clicker lol.

Good to know, now I don't have to worry about locking my keys in my car, I ALWAYS use my remote. The one about the call from home with a spare remote over the cell phone is probably bogus too....

If you're dumb enough to buy a cheap ass garage door opener like some cheesy Genie Jr. that uses the same code every time, then you just about deserve to be ripped off for being felony stupid.

Those garage door openers that have DIP switches (1-10) in the transmitters and the opener that you set manually are old-school. You actually pic the frequency yourself, and that's fine. But the silly machine uses the same frequency over and over. If you're that ignorant, well.....good luck!

Better machines cycle through 100s of thousands of possible frequency and use a different one every time. Pay the extra few bucks and get higher security. And for those of you who park one of your cars outside the garage because the garage is full, and you leave your garage door opener transmitter clipped to the visor, then you too are a taco short of a combo plate.

A good thief will steal your transmitter and wait until you leave and the house is empty and just "click" their way in!

Take that transmitter inside with you when you park outside!

On another note...

There has to be a way to shield the antenna on cars with keyless remotes. On a new battery in the remote, mine will work up to about 80 feet with a clear line of sight. It is anywhere in that distance that someone "COULD" conceivably steal the frequency. But do you have to be that far away when you lock or unlock? What if you could attenuate the signal so that you have to be within 10 feet of the car before the remote will work? Then someone who wanted to snag your freq would also have to be within 10 feet to do so. And if they're THAT close, you can see them!

Just an idea...

Likewise, as a garage opener, when you purchase your car security pay the extra dollar. There are plenty of models that use frequency hoping/scramblers that prevent the signal from being captured. Don't spend all that money on your ride and then protect her with pennies.
