Need opinion on JBA Shortys

I am running an 06 Mustang GT with C&L CAI, Bamachip tune, and Bassani exhaust. My plan is to add JBA headers to the car, but I want to make sure that I do not need to retune my car. Also, does anyone know if you can feel the different with the headers? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

When I got my JBA headers put on I felt a small differance in the power. It also made it sound alot better too.

I couldn't feel any difference but it does sound better .I got a tune at the same time.If you're looking for a performance increase go with gears.

Yep, mine did the same thing. I'm wondering if JBA had ever started to Include the header gaskets, when I did mine they didn't and was told that re-using the old gaskets was ok. I did and still no problems, so if you do these yourself remember not to bend them or trash them just in case. Good choice in headers except for one quirk in their design, I would have liked the flange to where the headpipe connects to have studs Instead of bolts. I would go with gears like Lightning said as the cost of the headers vs the gears along with the gain makes the gears worth it.

I am with lightingbuilltt, go with gears. I would go with 4.10 if man and 3.73 if auto. What one of Doug's tunes are you running?

Shouldn't it be 4.10 for auto and 3.73 for manual? Anyway, getting gears is the best bang for your buck. But I have JBA shortys too and no problem with them.

Nope, it's 4.10 man and 3.73 man. The 05+auto is a 5speed. A 3.73 auto is almost like running a 4.10 manual and a 4.10 auto would be close to having a 4.30 manual.

Longtubes would be a better route and headers are the worst bang for the buck and should be a last mod to do IMO. Gears as mentioned are the best bang for the buck and should be done after the CAI, midpipe, catback. I have no idea why the 05+ would be different than the 99-04 but on the average as mentioned auto is best with atleast 4.10 even blown a great gear. Manual 3.73 as mentioned atleast. I run 4.10 in my manual and love it. But at the track would be another scenerio.-Shane

They are both 5 speeds. Here are the 5Speed autos 5r55s gear ratios
1st 3.22, 2nd 2.29, 3rd 1.55, 4th 1.00 ,5th 0.71

Here are the 5speed man gear ratio
1st 3.38, 2nd 2.0, 3rd 1.32, 4th 1.0, 5th .675

Subzero you are correct 4.10 for auto and whatever you want for the manual. I prefer the 3.73, but any gear up to 4.30 is good. The reason 4.10 is for the automatic, it places the engine RPM into the perfect ban for your shift. Now, you can adjust all that with a tuner and make it work with any combo, but 4.10 for the money with your setup on an automatic.

I have always read 4.10 for the man and 3.73 for auto, at least for the 05+ since the auto has an overdrive and a taller final gear. Here is an RPM comparison at 75 MPH with the stock tires:
3.73 auto 2542 RPM
3.73 man 2417 RPM
4.10 auto 2795 RPM
4.10 man 2657 RPM

Headers for a ModMotor are the least "HP for $" mod that you can do and shorties are less that LTs. Headers on modmotors are for sound and just plain squeezing the very last bit of HP out of your combo.
I haven't seen many 05 up JBA headers, but I've seen quite a few 04 below sets crack and leak.
