No Twin Turbos For GT500 After All

With Ford pushing its EcoBoost engine technology hard, and Carroll Shelby himself rumored to be working on a twin-turbo Mustang, a lot of rumors have been swirling regarding the future of the GT500. Will it keep its supercharged engine? Will it replace the supercharger for twin snails? What does the future hold for the snake?

Well according to Autoblog, who sat down with Mike Harrison, Ford’s chief engineer for the new 5.0 liter V8, we won’t be seeing a twin turbo GT500 anytime soon.
Why? According to Harrison, it would be almost impossible to execute such a plan because the upcoming 5.0 engine leaves almost no room in the engine bay to fit two turbochargers. The headers take up all the room on the outside of the engine block. Of course, they could go the route of STS turbo, and mount the snails underneath the car, but they’re probably just going to stick to the supercharger…for now.

With that said, details on the new GT500 have not exactly been forthcoming. While we can expect the new Shelby offering to get Ford’s 5.0 engine, the Blue Oval has been mum on what to expect in terms of horsepower. With the base GT getting a one hundred horsepower bump by going from the 4.6 to 5.0, will the next GT500 slither past the 600 horsepower mark? We’ll have to wait and see, but with the current GT500 already making 540 horsepower, it wouldn’t take too much effort to get it up there.
its a shame the only reason is they couldnt find room to put them. If its a tight fit, you just gotta plan harder to make it work.

Fogs are too low to the ground the shells would be contacting everything in sight. take the hellion route and take out that big a$$ air box and boom turbo. And as long as they keep the heat extractor hood they would be goldn

My assertion is it could be done and sticking with my original post on the other thread. They have worthless unimaginative engineers and designers who need to be handed their walking papers. We all know these can be made to fit and the system be made to work, Ah well I'm going back to my bottle of Scotch...

If this damn economy would turn around, I have a TT setup for the current 4.6 designed and a few made, but they are just too damn expensive to build in limited numbers with MY quality standards. I don't foresee any problem adapting it to the 5.0.
