Redneck Blast Booth/Area

After seeing all the blast booths out there that are extremely expensive and really dont fit much in them, I was upset. I also was tired of blasting items from the 67 coupe and having to clean the entire garage to recover the media. So what I came up with is really just a makeshift area to blast in but it works.

I have an alcove in my garage that measures 6 foot by 2 foot and is all the way to the ceiling. I thought to myself, that would be a great place to be able to close off and blast in. Well I didnt close it off, but did enclose it a little bit.

I mounted a 3 foot tall by 4 foot wide piece of strandboard to the right hand side of the opening. Then, I put 2 braces offset on the end closest to the center of the opening. I attached a brace that sits on the floor between the back wall and the center brace. I next cut a small piece of strandboard and mounted it to the wall above where the left hand side 3 foot by 4 foot piece would go. I then attached a foot long piece of 2 x 4 that hung down about 1.5 to 2 inches. I put the left hand piece of strandboard in place and slid it across to meet the other side. The offset braces in the center create a 1 inch area that the left side slides into. This is my door to the blast booth. Next I took some old clear plastic I was going to throw away and stapled it around the 3 walls and along the backside of the right side strandboard. I attached the plastic up the door side with velcro strips and big spring clips. This way it is not permanently attached to the door and wil allow it to open. Lastly, I went along the backside of the right hand side and 3 walls with tape. This is to not allow a seam for the blast media to get into.

This area is big enough for me to put my rear axle, doors, fenders, and all the other little parts for the car into to blast. I will not have to chase as much of the media anymore. I am sure some of it will get away from the area as it is not sealed off, but for the most part it will stay in the area.

My gal was to spend as little as possible and make something that could be taken down easily and was just a partition type of thing, so I only would have one area to recover the media from......10 bucks in materials and I was good to go.

I will be testing to see if it is good or not tomorrow or saturday. If not, I am out $10.00 total!

Here are pics.
