Has anyone ever had to use something out of the ordinary to fix there car?

Yesterday I wanted to get some pics of my car doing a nice smoking burnout. Loaded up the wife and the camera and took off out the housing gate to the closest backroad off avenal exit. We turned off the highway and as I shifted to 3rd my engine light came on...followed by that little wrench on my tach..I was thinking what the hell as my car fell on its face. I pulled over tried to start it and it idel fine. I went to take off and it would die as soon as I gave it gas. Well frustrated I popped the hood and my cold air inlet tube fell off the throttle body, and fell out of the mass air thing that connects to the cone. My wife said are we gonna have to call a tow truck? i thought for a min then she asked well dont you have any tools? well of course not right 06 mustang...Well I tried to push it back together but still was not running right. Well I got in the car dugg around in the center counsil and found a penny. I loosend the wire clamps pushed everything back together and tightened it all back up with what now is my lucky penny.
I did make it further down the street where I put down a nice 5000RPM burnout though the wind was blowing and you dont get full effect. Andy will post them for me soon.

ANDY, well it pulled loose it didnt actually fall off on the ground or anything. Its from Reving it so high. I have the racer pipe so it is a plastic inlet tube..just slipped off. Its all good now though..

I have a good story. My boyfriend and I were driving my 88 GT back from Oregon to Colorado. I was driving through no man's land in Utah and white smoke started coming out from the back of the car. So, I pull over, pop the hood and come to find out the top radiator hose blew. Well, being the brainy person I am, didn't even think to bring any tools. Never will do that again.

Anywho, I did happen to have my nail kit with me and had a pair of nippers in there. So while Danny was cutting the hose with the nippers and loosening the hose clamps with a penny, I was running across the highway to the rest area that I thought we were so lucky to break down in front of. No running water. I see people at the rest area on the side we broke down at, so I run back across and up to them. One couple had two snapple bottles filled with water and the other couple had about a half of one. Filled the radiator up with that and made it another 40 miles to the next town to fill it the rest of the way up.

Next time I'll bring tools. LOL.

I have a similar story, I also had a radiator hose blow along the highway some years ago, I was looking through the junk that I brought with me to find something to patch it up, and I discovered a never leave home without it valuable tool to temporarily repair busted hoses. Nothing beats electrical tape to make it to the next exit. I wrapped it around the hose till I ran out of tape and surprisingly enough, it held like a champ.

Yeah, I was out 4Xing along time ago in the first new vehicle I ever owned.. It was a 93 Ranger splash. Of course I did a few mods under the hood to push 35" boggers ect..LOL My Radiater hose busted in it right at the top where it actually connects. Since I am from midwest lol..My buddy trimed it back with his pocket knife and we used a belt i had to hold it till we got home..

I GOT A STORY. LAST FEB MOTOR TREND MAG CAME OUT TO THE BASE TO HAVE A HUGE SHOOT OUT WITH A BUNCH OF CARS. THEY HAD A NEW LINGENFELTER VETTE, TT HENNESSEY VIPER, GTO, FORD GT, NEW Z06, AND THE LIVERNOISE MUSTANG. DAN AND I WERE INVITED TO GO OUT THERE AND HANG OUT WITH THE MUSTANG GUYS.THE DRIVER ENDED UP BEING THE WORST DRIVER I'VE EVER SEEN AND ENDED UP FRYING SOME RINGS AND BLOWING THE CAM PRESSURE SENSOR CAP OFF OF THE MUSTANG. WE COULD NOT FIND IT ANYWHERE. SO WE "FIXED IT". FUNNY THING. THE NEXT DAY DAN AND I GOT INTERVIEWED BY MOTOR TREND AND THEN THEY TOOK PICS OF THE ENGINE, WELL IN THE MAG THEY EDITED IT OUT BUT I HAVE THE REAL PICTURE. ANYWAYS WE HAD TO USE A COKE BOTTLE, AN EMPTY OIL BOTTLE AND SOME GARDEN HOSE TO USE AS LIKE AN OIL OVERFLOW. THEN THE CAP WE USED SOME RANDOM PIECE OF PLASTICK AND SOME JB WELD TO COVER UP THE GAPING HOLE IN THE VALVE COVER. ITS PRETTY FUNNY. BUT WITH ALL THAT IT STILL WAS RUNNING OVER 800RWHP.

Great story. Did those cars come onto the actual airfield? I remember people talking about some race cars coming out to run up the runway, but I never came in..I wanted to but I closed the fiel that night and had to stay late to derigg gears on and two so they could hall ass up the field.
