There are quite a few in Williams. Picking a hotel is very personnal. After 9 years in the military, all I need is a bed. My wife on the other hand.... I can find the names of some. I know there was a motel 6 and Im pretty sure a Holiday Inn.

Ok here is the complete map route from San Marcos, CA to Williams, AZ. Ive added the section of 66 between Victorville and Barstow. Ive read that this is one of the best sections left in CA. It only adds about 30 minutes to the trip. So about 10 hours of driving time according to mapquest. They usually take into accout the speed limits and city versus highway. I think we can make better time (speed wise) and cut some time off from whats below. What will make the difference is how often we stop and for how long. For those of us leaving from San Diego area, we will meet at the Dennys in San Marcos (Grand Ave and San Marcos Blvd just south of the 78) at 6:30 if you want to eat. Leaving hopefully by 7:30 no later then 8:00. Stop for a early lunch in Barstow around noon. Not a whole lot of services between Barstow and Oatman. Stop again in Oatman, just before the mountain section. Hang a dollor on the wall at a resturant (tradition) that had some pretty good burgers. Stop in Kingman for the 66 Museum. Then to Williams (or Seligman) for dinner. Hopefully be in Williams by 9:00. Ive ordered a RT 66 guide so I can hopefully find some more options for places to stop. If this is to long a day for anyone, speak up and we can drop the section between Victorville and Barstow. But remember we should have atleast two SUV's to carry stuff. I have a large rolling cooler that can be filled with snacks/drinks so we will be good there. We can also just plan to picnic when ever to make it quicker and cheaper. But part of the fun of 66 is hitting the local attractions.

Their pretty cool that way. I'm pretty sure there are two Motel 6's in Williams.

Gonna have to take a pass on this one.

I am trying to decide if I want to head to Texas on short notice for my daughters College Graduation. Plane tickets are through the roof!

Ok so here are the final details. Heading out from the Dennys in San Marcos (78 & San Marcos Blvd) at 8:00. (Ill be there about 7:00 to get breakfast.) Stop for lunch at the Palm Cafe (930 W. Main St) in Barstow (pick up paulthreestang) around 11:00. Head out of Barstow no later than 12:30. Be at the AZ boarder between 3:00 and 4:00 (pick up kobie). Stop in Oatman to see if the town burros are out. This was a pretty cool stop. Get water ready for the rest of the trip through the mountains. Should be able to make it to Williams for the night by 8:00. We can eat in Williams (couple of recommended places) or in Seligman (the Snow Cap is supposedly legendary).

Gas stops at a minimum will be Barstow and Kingman.

We will have all of the drivers when we cross into AZ, so the stop in Oatman will also be to get aquainted (sp) and plan how many stops we want to make on the rest of the trip and what time everyone wants to get to Williams. RT66 in AZ has been kept up pretty good, so there are a number of places we can visit. Including Kingman (gas stop atleast) with the RT 66 museum. No matter what I want to eat at the Snow Cap. If we don't go on Saturday, I will be going on Sunday after the Grand Canyon. I will pm everyone my phone number and email. I will also bring some copies of the maps. I think we will have five to eight cars so we should be able to stay together pretty easy. My only problem is my wife wants to keep our camcorder for my daughters prom. So if someone has one they can bring that would be great. I wanted to get a couple videos of the cars going through the mountains and the all the other cool places along the way. I will have a digital camera (makes small videos) for the pics. Below are the links to the maps I made up. These are drawn from websites and my RT 66 guidebook. There have been a number of changes to 66 throughout the years and alot of the pre 1940 roads are no longer driveable. There are also alot of sections that dead end that we will not travel. But this should be a good "break-in" cruise for everyone. Look forward to meeting everyone on Saturday. Bring comfy shoes, prepare to walk and sweat at the canyon. It will probably be hotter than what the rest of us have seen for a while. But it is one FANTASTICLLY AMAZING PLACE. If this is your first visit, it will make you feel small. If I left anything out or anything is unclear just let me know.

Sorry to here it guys. My daughter was bummed when she realized her prom was this weekend, asked ME to reschedule the cruise. Sorry already had reservatioins, luckily its only her JR prom. Might try to do another one Labor Day weekend since it should be a three day weekend also. My wife wants to hike down to the bottom, but couldn't right now because shes rehabing her ACL (knee). So that one might be for three days. I keep you guys posted if it looks like it might happen.
