2 things, can you datalog with it? and what are the differences with the X-Cal 3? I am reading up on it now..

Yes, it will Datalog. A lot of guys using the software free from SCT will use their laptops in the car connected by the USB cable to the programmer to log. I am supplying the USB cable which most people will NOT do.

The programmer is then plugged into the OBDC port and you are LIVE feeding data from the OBDC port to the programmer and from the programmer through the USB cable into your laptop.

I know you can't see the pdf at work but it's explained in there.

I'm not up on the Xcal 3 so I don't know the differences.
I do know that SCT has excellent customer support and their website has tons of forums where gazillions of topics like this are discussed.

I've never used a Livewire, don't know much about them. Doesn't say that it programs, just stores tunes and gives you data on your car. Not sure if it actually programs or just "monitors". Seems like a lot of money ($650+) for a flashing device.

Just so you know, the tunes in this programmer were specifically written for MY car by Evolution Performance. Although this programmer is NOT locked to my car by VIN (I have used it on my Lightning as well) you will obviously NOT want the tunes in it. They will have to be cleared out. Not sure if SCT has to do it or if any local tuner can do it. I will research this.

the problem is... you have to put your car back to stock... then clean the downloads on the programer... IF you don't the person who buys it is ****ed... and now has to send ti back to SCT and pay 75 bucks to have it reflashed with new tunes for new car... go to www.sctflash.com and there forum will walk you through it

SCT 3 has a faster processing rate... they are fazing out the xcal 2... xcal 3 also has a bigger LCD screen

the not locked to VIN i never heard of... can you explain?

I don't have to put my car back to stock. The three tunes in this were the three written for me by Evolution Performance. I returned the car to stock before Whipple flashed my ECM (I had to mail it to them). This unit is as it was when I bought it. My stock tune is NOT in it. Whipple stores my stock tune at their facility in Bakersfield.

If I had one of the three tunes in my car from the SCT and my stock tune in the SCT (they swap places when you copy the tune into your car) then it would be "locked" to my car. Any time your stock tune is in the Xcal and NOT in your car, the Xcal is married or locked to your car until you revert back to the stock tune. And I did that two years ago when I bought the Whipple. They wouldn't accept my ECM unless it had a stock tune in it.

So, your concern about the buyer being screwed is not true. At least NOT in this case. But if I had left my stock tune in it, it would render it useless to the buyer. I would never do that to my friends here. You may be reading horror stories somewhere else that happened to someone else, but not here.

In your extensive research, what did you find out about an XCAL2 that does NOT have someone's stock tune in it?

I just took the XCAL to my Lightning and followed the directions in the forum at SCT and the unit reads "STOCK".

I then plugged it into my PC and did the same thing and again it says "Stock". Based on that, this unit will NOT have to be sent anywhere and as mentioned in the forum discussion at SCT...

"go down to device info, and it will say the status =

If Stock or Unused, then the tuner is unlocked, or can be unlocked with your computer. .

If aftermarket, then it is locked to something else.

If it says "stock" you will have to manually unlock it using liveload.

I think that takes care of your concern. It's ready to go and can be wiped clean with a free software download from SCT. Yes, I am supplying the USB cable.

OK i see... I have used live load before.. I thought you were saying your 3 tunes were on it....

They ARE on it but can be erased easily with LiveLoad from SCT.

This unit also has "5 changes" left (which is the maximum).

This means it can be used, resold, set up with, locked to FIVE more vehicles BEFORE it goes to SCT for unlocking. I am the original owner and the ONLY owner, that's why there's five more before that $75 trip you referred to earlier.
