Because we have had such great success this fiscal year, we are now at the funding limits of our congressional authority for srb.
Matching srb's intent as a force shaping tool, and in light of our excellent progress this year, we consequently are temporarily suspending the srb program and the acceptance of any new requests for the remainder of this fiscal year. These changes are effective immediately. Those requests which have been received by pers-811 through opins prior to 1600 central daylight
time, 10 june 2009, will still be processed iaw refs a, b and c.

I just read that message too! It's like they are saying; this program has worked so well that we are stopping it! Navy logic eh????
Retention is high becuase people are scared to get out in this economy.

yeah retention is high because of the economy, but they are presently going through everyones service records to look for any thing that could have been missed such as Multiple PRT failures or any other thing they could separate you for. Also the message just came out about zone "C" perform to serve... Apparently if you are over 14 yrs by Feb 2010 you are grandfathered and dont have to worry about this. If you are not, and you are banking on retiring at 20 yrs better start stacking those EP evals so they dont send you on your way..

Great, lets downsize the military when we need them on 2 fronts. Lets get rid of all the senior enlisted because we don't need them now, because we live in a stable time where the military is obsolete. Yep, that's a smart move. I'm sure our men and women has not been nearly deployed enough. What a farse!!!!!!

Make sure you guys look at the corrected copy of that message...... "DTG: 102220Z Jun 09" I dont know what they corrected but there was a correction to the first one that was sent out. The Message title says cotrrected copy in it.

they arent downsizing the military.....the marines just made their goal of 202k. much smaller than the navy, but im sure the navy has grown with people staying in. besides, it wouldnt hurt to get rid of the lazy fat CPO's you guys got. no offense to the navy, and its not everyone, but its like as soon as your a cheif you can gain 3000lbs and stop working. at least thats the way i see it on the big boats im on.

Yeah I am one of those FAT CPO's......

I see alot more FAT E6 and below than anything.........am I wrong? NO not at all.

If they pass, then they pass. If they dont then within a couple years, they are gone.....3 fails and out. I know my command supports it no matter what rank you are.

I know the Marines that were on my ship had plenty of time to work out on deployment....all the while I was standing Surface on a 5 and dime schedule with Ops Intel at 1930 and O Call at 0615..... so yeah I had plenty of time when the Marines werent in the way to goto the gym all 40 square feet of it........ Not really....not enough time or room at all for an entire ship of people to goto a gym......... That is the reason for the weight issues.....3 -5 hours of sleep or 2-4 hours and a workout......I will take the sleep.

BJ, you are right though. there are those out there that dont stand the watches and have all the time in the world and dont workout, but alot do the right thing and stay in standards......I would be willing to bet there is an overwhelming percentage that are within standards and only a few that arent.....you only remember the bad ones.....not all the ones walking around that are within standards.

like i said, not everyone....but there are plenty. im on a big deck. the gym has seperated hours, and most navy here dont have night shift, only occasional watches. the only nightcrew is us and AIMD. they have more than enough time, and a good sized gym to do somehting about their weight and yet they dont. and you would be supprised of the e-5 and below, they are actually the ones i see doing pt all the time. and are in as good of shape as most marines.

now, im not saying all marines are in good shape, because we do have some lard asses, but 90% of them are LCPL's and below. and rarely do you see anyone above the rank of SSgt that isnt in good shape and PTing regularly

and you want to talk about hours. the marines in my squadron work 15-17 hour days, every day 7 days a week. we dont participate in the "holiday routine" these guys got going on. and they still make it to the gym everyday.

i am not arguing because the smallest boat ive ever been on is an LPD(not small) so it must be different, but on the big boats its all blamed on lazyness

BJ, I will buy the big decks being lazy but dont just blame it on Chiefs as it is all across the board that has alot around the middle. We have one E6 on base that is over 18 years so he cant be thrown out. He is quite large.....I dont know his percentage but to give you an idea.... He can not wear a navy web belt with his uniform. He had to use a civilian belt. His size is soo large that the SCPO that weighed him in for this last PFA had to swing the tape around the back of him and try to catch the end of it.....he couldnt reach around the guy.........He is easily 350 plus at about 6 foot....... At least he is taking part in PT and trying to lose the weight.......it is working but very slow at this point.

Small boys are completely different than what you are talking about schedule wise......

The bonus game is gone and pretty much just for the Navy and Marines. They know people are staying in now and they dont have to pay thousands of dollars to convince them. I do not see the bonuses staying or coming back any time soon. I kind of like that fact that they are being very selective on who gets to stay now. I have seen way too many **** birds get 20 plus K to stay and they didnt even earn their paycheck. Most good Marines will reenlist for $0.00 bonuses and love every minute. I never got a bonus up until my last re-enlisment. Nice it was but I was staying either way.

yose....they only cut the fy10 budget by like 40mil. bonuses should be about the same....well, thats what the jammer is tellin me...

lotsa people would re-enlist for $0, **** when i first did my package i thought they were gone, but that bonus is a nice DP on a house and i really hope they stay
