Silly VW GTI – sorry buddy it’s still a chick’s car

Ok I know it was childish but I couldn't resist....

So the other day I’m driving to work and apparently this new Black VW GTI (Dealer tags & window sticker) decided to goat me into a little Stop Light Grand Prix. Pulled up next to me as we where driving down one of the main drags in town. It was early and I really wasn’t in the mood but this guy kept-on revving his little four bangger as he sat next to me & would do a jack-rabbit takeoff every time the lights turned green. He even rolled down the window and was talking some smack. Young 20 something guy with his hat turned around ass-backwords.

Anyway I was ignoring him for the most part but finally gave in and when he made a disparaging comment about how “Mustangs are for pussies”. On this I looked over and said “dude – you’re in a chicks car” and that’s when the guy came unglued & got really pissed off. Lots of poor grammar & sentence structure coupled with just about every colorful disparaging term this guy could think of was thrown my way while we waited at the light.

Well long story short – when the light changed I left this guy with a serious case of “displacement” envy. He was probably about three or more car lengths behind me by the time I up shifted into fourth and eased off.

I rolled to a stop at the next light and when the guy finally came to a stop in the lane next to me he kept his eyes front & wouldn’t even look over at me.

I know it's nothing to brag about (A Bullitt smackin' down a little VW) - but some people need to be put in their place.

Nice Kill, seen some GTI's NO ONE on this forum can touch though. You Tube has a nice one around 800 at the wheel killing Terminators for the sheer pleasure of it. Imagine that lite and 800! Old roomie had one and I drove it once and was alittle impressed. -Shane

Shane - Truth is I didn't feel all that great about it - but the dork nozzle behind the wheel needed a good swift boot in the posterior.

Oh sure the GTI nice little car, but truth be told the original was a much better car. Even Top Gear did an old fashioned drag race between a New GTI from a few years ago against an Old Mk1 GTI and the old one totally owned the new one.

Sure the new one now has twice has about twice the horse power as the 30 year old GTI but it also has about twice the weight too. That translates into a 0-60 time of just under 7 seconds.

Still it’s a cute little car – but of course we can’t control the fact that sometimes dorks get their hands on them.

Sounds like you ran into a HPA R32. 575hp & 0-60 in about 3.5s

2008 HPA FT575 Volkswagen R32 package is about $40K and a totally different kettle of fish.

Whereas a regular VW r32 is much more sedate @ 250hp & a 0-60 time of 5.8s. Not bad but this shouldn't be any problem for a stock Mustang GT to handle.

I had a similar encounter with a Black WRX STI a few years back in my '78 Porsche 928.

I blew by him and his buddy at about 85mph on a deserted freeway early one morning. As I passed the guy jumped out to give pursuit. Now I read a lot and I knew that the STI that year had about a 11MPH higher top end than my ’78 928. Likewise if this had been in a stop light Grand Prix or a really twisty back road – he’d of killed me without breaking a sweat.

But my 928 has extremely long legs and in its day was true GT & a true Super Car, so I wasn’t about to just let him blow my doors off without making him work for it. So I down shifted in to fourth and rolled on the throttle.

Well apparently my 30+ year old car’s 90-120 was faster than the Subaru’s because for a while there he was barely keeping pace with me. But at about 125 I was at my redline and in top gear so while I was still increasing speed he started creeping up on my right hand side.

But about the time I hit my top end (wouldn’t go no faster) he was on my right rear quarter and that’s when he surprised me and shut it down. Looking over the WRX seemed to be buffeting excessively (the Super Subaru is a about as aerodynamic as a brick) while my old Porsche cruizing along smooth as silk.

I’m not saying my 78 P-car beat the STI – but I am thinking that I beat its driver.
