Sunpro Tach....

I just purchased a Sunpro Tach and already have it mounted, my only question is where is the easiest place to splice into the tach wire? Can I do it behind the gauge cluster? Or do I have to route my wires over to the computer behind the passenger side kick plate? I've seen directions of how to do it both ways on different forums just by Google searching. Also if anyone has a wiring diagram for my instrument cluster that would be awesome!! Thanks!!

Yes, however; when we have installed them in the past we always just went off of the comp vice splicing in to the one behind the cluster.... guys that used to work at the shops related that it gave a more accurate reading and it wouldnt mess up the other gage... Just what we used to do.

Do you have or know where I can get a schematic?

I was just reading something about a tach adapter?? Am I going to need one of these since I have a 01 stang? The article stated:
The problem is that the normal tach expects a pulse per spark, which at 5,000 RPM turns into 40,000 pulses per minute. The mustang doesn't do that, it gives one pulse per 8 sparks, which means you need an adapter to translate between the two numbers.

Yes, I verified it. If you want to install an aftermarket tachometer in a 99 and newer stang you must first install a tach adapter. For the 99-04 models use AUTOMETER #9117. Not sure about 05-09

Tachometer Signal Wire Installation
for 4.6L engine(s)
Must use model number 9117 Auto Meter tachometer adapter. Locate the large, square 42 pin wire harness connector in the corner of the engine bay where the passenger fender meets the firewall. Pop the plastic cover off of the top of this conector to expose where the wires enter the connector and to expose the wire pin numbers. Locate pin number 34 which will be in the corner of this connector and will be a white wire with a blue stripe. Cut this wire in half so that you now have two cut halves. Hook the red of the adapter to the cut half coming from the connector. hook the red/green of the adapter to the other cut half. Ground the black wire of the adapter. The gray wire of the adapter will now provide you with a good tachometer signal.
