SVTPerformance unhappy camper about his GT500

Well I'm still not sold on this being the best mustang ever. Going from an 04 Cobra to an 09 GT 500, so far has left me bewildered. IMHO the cobra looks better, more menacing. It doesn't have rear mudflaps??????, nor a 4x4 stance at the rear. For such a large car why is the interior more cramped than an 04? The front seats are only inches from the rear. Why is the parking brake on the wrong side? It cramps leg room for the driver. The cupholders are completely in the way of the shifter if you have a drink. The door pockets are ****in joke. The center console lid is to low and to far back to be of any use. It's a pita. Why can't you flip a simple lever to adjust the steering wheel, instead of adjusting the entire column? Cheap ass exterior mirrors, not body colored or folding. Cheap ass visors, not lighted. All this is unaccetable in a 46-50K car. The only pros I see is the shifter is light years better and so are the brakes. Engine.......well that is what has brought us to this posting. As I was going to overlook all the other SHORTCOMINGS until now.......

Went to the track Saturday night. It was warmish but extremely humid. However this is not an excuse for a supposedly 500 hp car. Keep in mind my stock 04 in good air went 12.62 @ 111, so I was expecting a car with 100+ more hp to rival that time in crappy weather. Oh was I wrong. This beast went a blistering 13.051 @ 107.72, as its best time. Yep 13.05 @ 107.72 best run. That was with a 2.027 60ft, powershifting at 6300rpms. It also ran 13.468 @ 106.33(2.182 60ft), 13.410 @ 105.97 (2.182 60ft), 13.449 @ 105.72 (2.133 60ft), 13.185 @ 106.99 (2.019 60ft), 13.291 @ 106.71 (2.169 60ft), and lastly a 13.160 @ 106.91 (2.034 60ft). Could I possilby have gotten a 12.9....sure with a hair better 60ft, but where is the top end charge????????? Am I the only one with a car that doesn't live up to the 115 mph trap speed hype? WTF. Thank God there wasn't a 2010 SS out there, I would've gone home with my tail between my legs. If I could UNLOAD this car tommorrow for payoff it would be gone. Atleast the wife said, "save up and buy another Terminator".

Curious what you GT500 guys are running at the track? Those of you who had a Terminator experience same issues? -Shane

My first thoughts about what the guy said while I was reading it is....half of what he was complaining about where things you would notice on a test drive.

Second thing I noticed is the times he put down. You don't take a new car to the track and expect to do well. It takes any good driver to get a feel for the car. Even so, 13.05 is not far off of what the magazines were seeing in the high 12's.

Something sounds fishy to me with the guy. Who woud go spend that kind of money and complain about things you know before you ever buy. Anyone who knows mustangs knows that a few mods goes along ways. And it has been pretty well proven how fast these cars are with some mods. Who would pass that up? He could also have something wrong with the car and it isn't putting the power down. But yet, he doesn't even mention wanting to bring it into the dealer to have it checked. Something just doesn't sound right.

And the shifter??? Come on, the thing is terrible. As all stock ones are. Again, something just doesn't sound right.

There are some things I agree that should never be on this level of vehicle. But the interior is worlds apart from the 03-04 Cobra's. I have been slightly disappointed with my times at the track. But only slightly. Everyone "thinks" they are a good driver, but sometimes reality sets in. And I also have wondered about why my car hasn't hit times I thought it should for the power. But I have concluded that it is just a matter of a few parts and some time in the seat thats holding it back. 3.31 gears and marshmellow shifting for starters.

If the guy is legit, I think he should never have bought the car to begin with.

this is first ive heard you traded your cobra for an 09. The ss didnt impress me. Only put down 327 hp to the ground on a local dyno and it was a bumble bee edition, LOL.

I was thinking the same thing. Didn't he test drive it?? I do agree though the termi's are meaner. I would pass on a GT500. No offense peeps. :)

spdpilot....did you own a Terminator before? Pretty sure he is compairing for the most part. Think I would rock a 2010 Shelby but not 05-09. -Shane

terminator is a lot more bang for the buck in my opinion.

Same is said for a Fox compaired to a Terminator. It boils down to taste cause you pay to play and some want something already built and some want to build it. So many people compare apples to oranges and you just cant do that. -Shane

Everything he complained about is obvious during and before a test drive. All those performance complaints have been aired multiple times in many places before as well. He should have known what he was getting, however as SpdPilot stated above, mods and seat time can surely squash many of those issues.

If he has that many complaints, I will take it off his hands so he doesnt have an inferior vehicle........ Lots of people out there would give their left "we know what" just to be able to drive one of these vehicles. Stop crying and drive the dang car......

And if he wanted fit and finish he should have bought a M3/M5/M6 or something German......

Nope...but I have owned a 2000 in the same body style and 8 other mustangs from 86 to current. But I have driven them alot.

Every new model is different. And I remember when the first modular Cobra v8 hit the streets. Went to an engineering meeting at Ford to learn about how it was made. They did it because everyone in the Mustang world thought At the time, it was the end of performance. I was convinced myself it was a Giant mistake. Then people got confortable with the idea and here we are today.

A GT500 is not for everyone. But neither was the 03-04 Cobra. Each has their own issues to overcome. Oddly enough, once a mustang, always a mustang. The GT500 falls just short of the mark. Just enough that a couple thousand dollars on mods, makes it a whole different car. Just like the 03-04 Cobra. Funny thing is, the GT500 is a great deal. I kind of get tired of the whole...."if I am going to pay $50K for a car, expect xyz". You can pick up an 07-09 for about 35-36K.

I agree. If you "love" a Terminator, you never going to be happy with a GT500. If you "love" your 2005 GT, you will most definately be happy with a GT500.

They are worlds apart in how they look, handle, and drive. The experience is completely different.

I never bought my GT500 to replace my 98 Cobra. It never will. But I enjoy my GT500 for what is and what it will become. But it is not a life long thing. I could see me selling it in a few years. Thankfully I have been blessed enough to be able to enjoy both.

Well there is no doubt that the 05-10 Shelby is a beast! You are 100% on the fact that the Shelby and the Terminator are very easy different cars after the mods. I love my Terminator and think I will be with her a very long time. She will throughout history be one of the baddest ever made and only having been two years a rarity to come. -Shane

how many miles are on it?? doesnt the computer in the older gt500's keep it restrained for about 5000 miles or so. thats what i heard. and i agree with everyone, you should have noticed that stuff on the test drive, but did you buy this vehicle so you could use the bup holders??

me personally will always love the termy more, and will buy one when i get a chance, but the gt500 isnt a bad car. throw some gears in it and and intake....maybe a pully and let the engine break it. i bet you will hit low 12's then

I think that the seats in the interior in the new cars are worlds apart from the older SN-95 based cars. I don't know why he is complaining.

pretty cars and all but i'm just weird i suppose. i'd rather buy something cheaper and " make payments " in parts form.

to me ... end result is still a badass car... just never a warranty. ( explains why ive never owned a car newer than 10 years old )

Off topic!

spdpilot, just wandering, I see you live in Oceanside, did you buy your car from Kieth at Raceway?

If you did, Congratz, I know you got a great deal on it... (If you did) That car was first bought by a kid and his dad, but come Monday morning, there were some problems with them, so it was brought back (with 400+ miles)... Then I saw it, I had a Dodge truck that was a Lemon and was going to be bought back, so promised to put that money down and trade in my 08 GT-CS.. Well, had to pay off neg-Equity first, so no down..... Luckily I never took car home, but I did get extra keys and owners manual, which I had to return (sad day!)... But I still have my Special, and it sounds like the car went to someone that loves it

If this is not the car..
Then, Never mind

Wow! yes, this is likely the car. What are the chances of that! It had 500 miles on it when I got it and I did buy it from Raceway Ford.

They really did a good deal on it. I had to walk a couple times. It was sitting for about 6 months and no one bought it because of the miles. I finally got the price negotiated and then they wanted to give me a high interest rate. So I walked again. They contacted me a few days later and said they could do the deal and I said NO. Then I got them take more off it and deliver it down to me in Oceanside.

A Mustang home for sure. My wife drives it daily and of course, if you look around at my posts, you know I take it to the track.

Super Cool!

Thats too Cool!, Keith told me he got to deliver, and I'm glad it went to a good home.... They had a 09 White with Red stripes sitting for a long time also, but I could'nt do anything with it, but Keith sure tried alot of ways... Again, Congratz and enjoy, at least it was broke in a little.... Kieth took that pic and sent it to me then I found out I couldn't get it. That is my wife and the Stang she bought from Keith..
