Todays argument at work.....(Long Post)

Well I got in a huge argument with a guy at work about import and domestic autos.....It all started with me saying how I wish the Big 3 would get their money to help them out....The other guy started preaching that the Big 3 didnt deserve the bailout because they produce crap vehicles.... He was telling me his Camry was sooo much better made than a Malibu and that Toyota is the best out there....yes I will agree they are decent cars.....

We went on for awhile and my point that I was trying to make to him was that...the reports and stuff you read have some factual basis to them but they are in the end A PERSONS VIEW of the vehicle, not based on anything else.

Well it went on some more and I told him that if you want to see which vehicles are the best overall, get the production figures, recall statistics for all vehicles, and repeat customer numbers.... that will really help you as far as what is an actual better vehicle.(Toyota is probably at the top of the list so that would have supported his side) I told him that if someone has an issue with a vehicle they bitch loud and proud to everyone that will listen, while someone that is happy with a car wont say anything but will buy another later on. He told me that Consumer Reports takes all that into consideration, which is probably in there somewhere but it doesnt mean much compared to the real factual stuff.

So I really pissed him off and made his face turn red and he started getting loud and shouting when I brought up the JD Power ratings......

Malibu beat out the Camry for an award......LOL

He now will not talk to me and hates everything about me....he doesnt want me instructing his students anymore either......WOW I didnt think it was that serious......

I am gonna print the JD Power rankings and leave them on his desk everyday until he slices his wrists........

I even said on my way out, Have a nice evening....to which he responded, DONT TELL ME WHAT KIND OF AN EVENING TO HAVE!!!

What a day but I think he may just key my car to end it now...LOL

That story reminds me of a friend I know with a 08 Shelby GT/CS

His boss went out and bought a 08 Mustang CS bfore he bought his Shelby and thought he was hot ****.

When my friend bought his shelby his boss started telling him that it wasnta real
Shelby and that his car was faster and better. When he was shown the shelby plaque he started saying it was a fake and a clone because shelby doesnt make GT Mustangs. Make a long story short the boss ended up pissed for a couple of months because my friend wouldn stop with the brochures and the fat he buht a shelby and his boss was a retard for having sheby envy.

Bottom linegive him hell because he wishes after buyig th camry that he bought amans car not a girls gas saver.

Oh I forgot to add.....this is a guy that spent 10yeas stationed in Japan, and he is from California originally, and he has a Japanese wife.......

I hate it when people say they didnt buy American because there wasnt a good enough product out there.....then I said, what about a Cadillac????? He said well I didnt want one of those.........AH HA...there is the real reason...not the reports, it was what you wanted to buy not because of quality. Send your money to Japan and support the non Union workers here in America. Then blame the Big 3 because they dont have a vehicle rated high enough.....What a bunch of BS!

Good Job Gibs!!!! I can remember when I was like 12 my brother and me talking about wars ect. I can remember him talking about U.S. being the strongest country and it ill eventualy be tested again ect ( 911). He had also said that since countries such as Japan cant beat us with military power they are going to try to beat us economicaly. Its funny that was like 20 years ago when we had this talk and its all I been hearing about lately with the big 3. I personaly have lived in Japan and seen there business and personal values ect when it comes to producing a good product and quality of work. I have never one been ripped off by a soda machine ect over there... or my mc donalds order ever wrong off base. They take pride in everything they do. I respect them for that but when itcomes to vehicles its the same quality as american cars. Yes they get better MPG but.. they cant be doing that well either. Toyota is teamed up with Chevy for example. I seen a Toyota Cavaleer in Japan. I guess the point is that I would never directly buy a inport because I believe in my country and take pride in the US. I would never want to think that I put another american out of a job because I was worried about saving gas ect. If that is the case by a freakin Focus or a bike!

I for once agree with you Phil......

The MPG game is a whole nother beast though.......the cars are listed at a mutual point in the range that the tested ones were at. Example....

Look at the gas mileage info...they rated them between 14 and 20 MPG city and then 21-29 HWY. Well they just pick a spot in the middle for the actual numbers. So when the Toyota RAV 4 commercial says it gets best in class mileage......that is based on a number in the middle of the range. Most vehicles in a class are seperated by +/_3 MPG......well if the range for all of them is 7 or so.....WTF does it matter, it will come down to Grandma driving it or Phil driving it like it is stolen....LOL That is what matters. Just like how my GT says 27MPG HWY, but I have gotten 35 with it at 70-75 with CC on.........not very accurate numbers....I still average well above the 27 HWY with 23K on it.<<<<that is without the splitter.......with the splitter I get 25-27HWY
