use a tow dolly, and disconnect the drive shaft......

most trailers are around 1000 I have been pricing them and that is for a 16 foot open that is 7.5 wide.....

check out craigslist.com inland empire. there is always trailers up there....

good idea, and from towing experience, using a dolly is easier to maneuver too

Wondering where I am!?!?

Do a partial DITY move and the USMC should pay for the trailer rental.

I am very leary about putting a car on a dolly for that long of a distance.

EDIT: Sorry! Saw the Sea Service and ASSUMED you were Navy

Disconnect the driveshaft as it is a RWD car. That way it isnt turning all the way acrosss the states....

I towed with a dolly for about 3/4 of the way across before. It was an easy tow and had no issues. If you can tow a dolly for 10 miles, long distance freeway towing one is easy too...Just be leary of backing up when you get off the highway for a gas stop or hotels and such.

TMO will not ship it. the dolly is 450, but i dont want to use one of those......especially since my rear end isnt finished yet. most likely if i cant get a trailer is will end up driving it. we only gotta make it about 350mi/day. i got a buddy here at work that might be selling his trailer. if i have to spend 800-1000 on a trailer that i can keep, thats worth it. im gonna keep lookin, just let me know if you guys hear of any good deals

towing with a dolly is like towing a regular trailer. You have one pivot point which is where the ball and coupler meet. Backing up is just like any other trailer, and easier around corners since you don't have a long "tail" following you.

I drove commercial doubles and triples (in WA.) 10-18 wheelers. THOSE are hard to back up.

Any way...BJ, what about towing with the rear end on the dolly and fronts on the ground? There you would just have to watch for steep driveways

tow dollys suck for backing up. it took me 1hr to back up 80 feet. dollys have 2 pivot points. the hitch and the car

Bee Jay, I just wanted to warn you that U-Haul and Penske have their balls welded to the truck. You might want to find out what size they are before you buy a trailer. If the hitch size on the trailer does not match the truck you will be screwed.

BJ i'd call around and compare prices with uhual budget penske they all have military discount and penske if you tell them you got a lower offer with someone else they may just give it to ya thats what joker did when we moved out here budget gave a better price and penske worked something out so we would go with them.

ok....so, im not gettin a uhaul truck.....jsut to clarify that. people seem comfused. im gonna have TMO ship all of my belongings and im going to drive. i am responsible for getting both vehicles there tho. the actual towing is not a problem. i tow all day at work, and i used to drive around the semis when i worked at a moving company.

the only other option i can think of is to ship the mustang, take a hit, then pick up a cheap pop up trailer, use that to offset the cost since i wont need hotels. we have like 5 scenarios we are going over....
