I haven't gotten anything yet, Andy. I have decided to go with the Centerforce and a lighter flywheel, but now I have to wait until after Christmas to buy anything for the car. It's the "you cannot buy anything for yourself after November 1st" Christmas rule. However, I should have a set of billet grilles arriving any day that I literally stole off eBay. Ordered pre-November one, of course.

I'll let you know the minute I order the new stuff... probably around my birthday... the 1st of the new year.

I Need Help

Andy,

I started out in the Stang this morning, and I got on it fairly hard from a stop light and went through the gears hard. After I got into 5th, I heard a scraping/grinding sound from the front half of the drive train. This is the second time I've heard this, but after I slowed down to turn around and depressed the clutch again, it stopped and then didn't do it again all the way back home.

Any ideas? It doesn't seem to be slipping and makes great horsepower, but the car is starting to make noises like an exhaust leak right at the back of the engine and sounds kind of 'flat' sometimes. I have been told that if a header gasket goes bad, the aluminum can be actually melted by the leaking exhaust gases. There is also a 'squealing' noise that sounds like a brake rotor that I hear after I hammer it, too. However, I have already replaced the rotors and pads all the way around. Have you ever heard that??

When I get home tonight, the car is going up in the air and I'm gonna re-torque all the header bolts and look around underneath and see what I can find.

Throwout (release) bearing.... Mine did with the centerforce.. Throwout bearings are like a hit or miss they ethier sqeal or they dont... are you sure its from the front of the drivetrain... it could be nosie from those 4:56's, also check the resivor for the hydralic clutch, you my need to bleed the clutch to.. does it only do it after hard driving? and what Speed (MPH) are you going when it starts and stops....

Sounds like the clutch itself is fine...But if somthing is wrong with that damn hdr. Clutch system you could have oil on the clutch, But its not slipping so i dont think its that.. But air in the clutch system will cause it to leave pressure on the clutch for making the release bearing sqeal

OK, that makes sense, but where do I bleed the clutch? The reservoir is full to where it should be, I'm pretty sure. The squeal happens when I hammer it through the gears and stay in it until 4th or 5th. Also, could this be the 'flat' sound from the engine as well?

Thanks alot for your answers, Andy... I really appreciate it.

flat sound? never heard of that, I have never bleed it on your style car. It probably would be at the resovir some where so you could bleed it at the highest point of the system. Does the pedal ever feel funny or spongy some people say. NExt week when i go to School I will check it out on alldata... Ever tech should have alldata, its a machenics best friend... IT has every car from 1980 to present and how to fix everything on them. I cant wait! I got 2 more semester before I go to state for my Smog licenses! then 2 1/2 more years till i get my Degree in automotives, Then it will be Machmans Test only smog and Speed shop LOL!

The flat sound almost sounds like a bad cylinder, but there is definitely no loss of power. I am starting to think exhaust leak. As far as the pedal feeling funny, it is hooking up right at the top when I let off/engage the clutch, but not soft or spongy.

I also think it's great that you are fired up about school as much as you are... I wasi you all the success in the world, man. I should have you talk to my daughter. I'm afraid she's throwing my Mustang toy money down the drain at Mizzou sometimes.

Thanks again for the info... I'll keep ya posted. Btw, what is alldata, and where can I get it?

go to alldata.com i think thats the URL, you buy a program, DL it on to the computer and its works online... it will give you all the TSB's of all viechle specs. from 1980 to now, all torque specs everything.... even the location of things...

I have never worked on a honda before but the other day in my supervised practic class i had one with a speedo not working.... I trouble shot it on alldata and bam bad speed sensor.. Found this out by test the ohms of resistence in the sensor.. it was out of spec so in to the trash it went... put a new one in and bam speedo works great!!! Its so easy anyonew that can read and follow instructions can fix the cars of today... It might just seem really easy because of the stuff i have learned in the passed year of school and the past 13years of working out of my pops garage..

24.95 for a years' subscription. I think it'll pay for itself when I do the clutch. I drove the Stang to work today and it is running very good... lots of power, but something just doesn't feel and sound right with it. The frustrating part is I just cannot seem to put my finger on it. However, I am fairly certain the slave cylinder is bad or going bad, but the clutch isn't slipping at all. That is definitely where the squeal is coming from, though.
