what kind of car did this rear end come out of?

My 90 notch probably does not have a Fox rear end. removing the diff cover I also found 3:55 gears.

check out the extra mounts where it seems shocks get bolted to. I think it's an SN95 rear.

what does all this mean?

well if you look at the axle tag is says 2:73 (2 L 73) with a track lock... and that extra shock tab is for the quad shocks..

its a mustang rear end

So they took an SN95 rearend but put in a 4 lug? That would be weird. Did you have rear disk brakes with the 4 lug?

no, they put the 4 lug axles in that rear end. It has 5 lug Lincoln disc now

It does have 3:55's though. I'll get a couple more pics up. I have a question about the trac lock

here is what i can find:
S215-A - 90-01 Mustang, 2.73 gears, 28 spline, Trak-Lok
2L73 as stated early just means is a limited slip with 2.73's
the 88 means its an 8.8 and the last set of letters is its build date. 04 being day, k being month(nov) and 0 being year, but i dont know if its a 2000 or a 1990? if it was 4 lug, its a 1990. and if its a 2000, it would have also had disc brakes.

SN95's did not come with drum brakes further confirming that it is an earlier model mustang rearend with a gear swap.

but the earlier Mustang didn't have the top horizontal shock mount. It has markings indicating that it did have something bolted down to it. I suspect it's a 2000 and they re-installed the 4 lug drum axles. They should have just bolted in the whole axle and done a front 5 lug swap. Looks like it was a budget build. Either way, it an 8.8 with a Trak-Lok and has 3:55's, now with 5 lug disc

Thanks Dusten for that info! :hello:

I thought they stopped running the 2.73 in the foxes?

If it was a 2000 axle (longer) the fox length axles may not reach the center of the diff to install the c-clips. Well it is what it is, lol

You've got it under control either way. :)
