Wifes car going to hell

Two nights ago my wife and i were in her 2000 eclipse and the service engine light came on and there was nothing obvious going on with the car but i hooked up my diablo yesterday and it said that there was no trouble codes found. When i went to pick up my car from Oranges place the car was making a ticking noise that was accending for 5 or 6 ticks and then quick for second and then start all over again. I think it might be a vavle spring going bad. I'm wondering if there is anyone with a generic trouble code reader. Not a sct or diablo. I asked a guy that worked at kragens if the OBD II computer was common in all newer cars and he said yes that was true so i dont know what the hell now.
Please help. Stupid japanese cars....

Military?? If so, the Miramar Auto Hobby Shop has a reader

yeah, the autohobby shop will you do that, are you sure about the code reader, i just used one on the infiniti in august.

he is military, but you cant get a civilians car into the hobby shop, they check registration to make sure its your car. one on pendleton does anyhow.

Damn, havent been to the hobby shop at Pendleton in a while, im at MCRD now and I had a friend who hooked his buddy up there... maybe its different at each base.

her car is registered on base but she came home tody after work and sait the light went out so im really happy about that and i just got my car back to from orange.
