Ken Block Breaks Fiesta Rally Car On First Outing

The rally world was shaken up early last month when Ken Block officially signed up with Ford. Trading in his Subaru WRX for a Ford Fiesta seemed like heresy to many, but to Block it was just good business sense. This weekend was the first actual race showing for Block and his feisty Fiesta. But things didn’t turn out quite the way we imagined they would.
Rather than taking the checkered flag, Block and the Fiesta had to retire after just seven stages, according to The Winding Road.
The video of Block’s shakedown run shows the Fiesta running strong, with Block topping out at 110mph. The car handled admirably from the looks of the video, and Block certainly has cajones for blasting through the Michigan winter wonderland at the speeds he did. But that is why he gets paid the big bucks, right? And this car was detuned for the Sno*Drift rally to just 330 horsepower. We can’t wait to see how it performs at its maximum power capacity of 500 horsepower.

We’ll have to wait until they fix the suspension first though. A suspension mounting bolt broke during the seventh stage, sidelining Block even though the car was up and running later the same day. That left Travis Pastrana to take first place in his Subaru WRX, beating out Canadian driver Antoine L’Estage in his Mitsubishi Evo. The next event for Block and the Fiesta will be in February at the Swedish Rally to kickoff the World Rally Championship series. Hopefully he will have better luck there!
