hey guys, like some of you know i have a 99v6 i just bought, bone stock with a little over 90k miles on it. still runs awesome! i want to start modding it so i can run with the v8 guys but dont know where to start. i might buy a nitrous kit from a guy on here but what else is good. i was in pepboys the other day and bought a hose kit, and gauge pod for my car but i need gauges for it still. they didnt have a whole lot ofperformance stuff for stangs in there and i want to know a good place to look for parts. i cant wait to mod this thing, it already does like 130, i cant imagine how fast it will go once its souped up! thanks guys!

okay, having a full bolt on 04 v6 myself back in the day, i think i can guide you the right way. but first a few things to clear the air:

1. NEVER go to pepboys, autozone, kragen, etc. for performance stuff again. i know they sell k&n, magnaflow, flowmaster, and other stuff people put on their mustangs but they shaft you. you can find better deals for the same stuff online. only go there to get parts to detail your mustang with.

2. your STOCK v6 will not do 130. unless you're pushing it off a cliff or out the back of a plane.

3. nitrous is good. never did it on my v6 though.

4. here's the mods you want to do to your v6 to get it started:

cold air intake
exhaust
pulleys
gears & trac lok
and a tune

if you have an automatic, get 4.10 gears. if you have a manual get 3.73's.

once you get those done, then you can start working on the motor. if you can, find an 8.8 rear end which you can swap out, get it, and those should already come with trak lok. then you just need to find 4.10 / 3.73's for it.

just to let you know, v8's respond way better to mods than v6's. so while these may help you catch up, any modded 99+ v8 will still have a HUGE advantage. 94-98 v8's though (not highly modded), you'll give them a run for their money.

also, welcome to the site. :)

no, you will NOT hit 300rwhp with those mods. with my full bolt on v6, i was at most 215-220rwhp.

and you cannot just buy 8.8 rear end gears for your v6 for the simple fact that your v6 does not come with an 8.8. you have to upgrade to an 8.8 rear end first. i suggested that because the 8.8 will take more of a beating than the stock 7.5 that the v6's come with.

with just nitrous alone you will surprise a LOT of v8's, but most likely they will reel you back in.

it's a LONG road to get up there with a v8. you can't just add a few things and expect a level playing field. the mods i listed are basically starter mods for a v6. done to get it running better. it's when you work on the motor and suspension that the car really comes to life. by the time you get all that done, you've probably sunk more $$$ into the car than what you spent to buy it.

for performance parts, i recommend either JBA or CPR depending on what part of the county you live in. JBA is on Convoy and CPR in Santee. Also many online mustang parts site you can go to. Plus we have our own performance shop here at Wickedstangs that will give you a discount.

Ichiduo is right, do not go to your neighborhood auto shop for performance parts, accessories yes. No buenos.

The car might be sound but at 90 thousand miles i dont know if i would even do a No2 kit let alone boost on that motor. But to say the least exaust, intake, gears, and chip will do you just fine.

Just bought my subframe connetors from AM they have free shipping on most everything, but ebay is probably best place to find deals.
