Well guys as it turns out I was wrong. The converter will still need to be reworked to get the stall speed right, but it was actually sent out and setup per the specs of my car. The converter will be sent back out this week to make it looser to give it some more stall. I'll throw it back in and get back out there as soon as I can.

This is a long story and will inform everyone later what actually happened. I'm off to the tranny shop right now.

Good luck and keep those shops on their toes. I've had my fair share of problems with shop work. If I fix it, I always pray that it works. When it goes to a shop, I perform an exercism when it returns....and it has still broken every time!!!

Well here is the whole story in a nutshell.............I called the tranny shop and complained that my car didn't stall and that my car acted like a stock converter. Well he got pissed and told me he would get me a build sheet on the converter. That day I stopped in his shop to talk to him and the first thing out of his mouth was..."I've been thinking about your bitching and I'm gonna pull the converter and have it restalled". The fact that he didn't put up a fight about pulling it out was alarming to me and I figured that he knew he didn't give me what I asked for and that was the reason he said he would fix it. He originally told me the converter was done in Oceanside, but then changed his story and said the converter was done in Arizona. More on that in a minute.

Then he said to drop off the car, but he wasn't sure if he would have room and that he would ask the neighbor shop to store my car. Well I was like F that my car isn't staying outside for a week! Then I called him and told him I would pull it out myself and bring it to him. That lifted his spirits because he wouldn't have to eat any labor.

After I pulled it I saw a ford part# and looked it up and saw it came from a windstar and got pissed! I knew they used cores, but the way the converter reacted in my car and the lying I assumed I got screwed.

After finding that the converter shop was in inglwood I gave them a call and they confirmed through some stamping on the converter that they indeed did the work. Problem is that some of the info about my car that they recieved was off a little. Stalling a converter is very complex and requires accurate info at the very least.

They were told that my car was 351ci instead of 395ci, they were told I had 28" tires when I have 26" they were also told that the car was more street than strip which is exactly the opposite. After speaking to the converter guy he now has accurate information and I'm hoping for 7.50's on motor when I get it back.

Hey Bob. I talked to you about this guy at Mustang By the Bay. I got stories for days about this guy. He's a complete Douche and con artist. I didn't say much at the time because, well, there wasn't much sense. Work was done, and through all the BS you had already dealt with, seemed pleased. I know the guy he uses for converters and they do good work.Probably half of the barona drag cars use him. Did you talk to Chris when you called ? Cool guy. Almost went with him on my turbo converter, but chose his buddy Lenny instead.
FWIW, foot braking won't tell ya really how high the stall speed is. I used to have one that would foot brake to 2200, and that was it. The one I have now is much tighter, and will only foot brake to about 1600. Put that sum bitch on the brake and it goes to 3400. Both of these where 3600 stalls. When you get it, ask him what kind of RPM drop he wants to see on the shifts. That will give you a good idea of where the thing is at. Generally looking for 1000-1200 rpm drop in shift...depending on combo.

If you are talking about Lenny from ultimate converters he's awesome, but the person I am speaking with behind the scenes is Peter from continental. He seems cool as hell and very knowledgable. I know it's hard to tell the stall from the footbrake, but the car wanted to push past the brake at idle! That is not a stall. I also tested it driving at about 25-30mph cruising at 1500 and then getting on it. Converter never flashed. It just gradually accelerated. If he ever gets my converter sent out they are going to loosen it up and I'll get back out there and test it.

P.S. CPR, did you notice that I was behind you the other day as you were ripping down prospect? .............Show off.

I was actually coming from his shop that day, but he was closed. I'll tell you more about what happened when I see you in person. Kind hard to explain on here without skipping around.

Yep yep, Lenny at ultimate. Nice guy. Peter ? Never talked to him, but I was talking about Continental, yes sir. Chris is the owner I'm 99% sure.

I did think it might be you, but didn't want to look like a doofus again lol. I started talking to another guy on another board like I knew him. Figured, "How many orange coupes could there be ?" His avatar had a pic of an orange cpe. But apparently it wasn't you. :)
I was "testing" a customers car :) One of those blo thru things again. Leaned it out some for him, was making sure the AFR was safe. I won't be beating the piss outta a customers car with a damn good reason. Just making it sure it didn't lean out at 5k with the changes I made....damn I love this job

Well guys here is my update from last night. After busting my ass to get the torque converter out this weekend and then burning 2 hours of vacation time at work so that I could get the converter to the shop on monday (so they could ship it first thing tuesday) The guy still hasn't sent it out. After talking to one of his workers who told me it wasn't sent out yet, he turned around and told me that it was, but he didn't know that the other guy told me the truth! I didn't call today, but the Fu*ker probably still hasn't sent it out. I'm playing it cool until I get my converter back and then Fu*K his name and shop!

This sucks.
