well since everybody was afraid of water, too tired to get up at 6am, etc. etc... it was just me and the pj saleen who went to famoso today from the central valley chapter:

and because people were afraid of water, today wasn't busy at all. in the four hours i was there, i got 7 runs in. some of the four hours was taken up by cars snapping axles ( sadly it was a fox... :( ). also one drag car did a burn out on the left lane, lost it, got it back, lost it again, tried to get it back, headed right, smacked the right lane wall, front lifted up and rode the wall, eventually doing some barrel rolls as it slid off the wall. the driver got out on his own, the lucky sumbish.

that was basically the highlights BEFORE i left. here are some more pics:

now that the pics are out of the way, it's time for how i did. i was actually part of the first pair that went up. silly me did NOT know where to do a burnout, so i basically rolled with cold tires. HUGE mistake. no traction, ass end squirrely as a mofo, swerving left and right... i almost lost it on my first run and smacked the left lane wall. HOLY ISH! and all cause i wanted to skip the water box and do a burnout without it. NEVER AGAIN. the rest of my runs, i just sat in the water box and roasted my tires. but you can see the effect of me swerving all over the place and not having any traction in my first time slip here:

img001.jpg

holy crap, 17.698... i didn't even do that bad in my v6. its first run was in the 16's!!! but let me tell you i'd rather run a 17.698, than have my car or a flatbed truck.

here are the rest of my slips. as you can see, i did get better and better... with a hiccup in the middle. it's when i race an auto cobra that was whippled. 10 second car... i forgot to foot brake and ran a 14... *shakes head*

and what was my best time? something i was actually a little proud of. it's what my car should do stock, but seeing as i fought traction all day, i'm just happy i reached it:

all in all, a good day. next time more of the central valley should show.

Your pictures looks like the place was empty.

it was pretty much, when i ran... forecast called for rain... weatherman was wrong. rain + track usually do not mix well. lol!

so i knew one of two things could occur:

1. it could rain and i'd be s.o.l.

2. it could NOT rain and it'd be easy to get a lot of runs in, in a short amount of time cause people would either head home or not show, fearing rain.

towards the later part of the day, more dragsters showed up, making the time to get runs in longer... but by that time, i got a good amount of baseline runs in. so, i left early.

by my estimate, there were probably 50-70 cars lined up (dragsters included) when i left, and about another 30-50 cars being worked on in the lot that were gonna run.

Thanks for the Viper pics Jay :). By the way do you know what it ran? Was it stock? And for everyones info, I like Vipers!!! Alot. And all the guys in the CV love to rub it in. But it is my affection for Vipers that is going to make it that much more enjoyable when I blow the doors off of them w/ my GT500 in January. Once again, thanks for the pics Jay and for representing Wicked Stangs at the track.

i don't know if it was stock, but when it rolled up, it didn't sound very aggressive. and the run i saw, it ran 11.1xx... i think the driver did say he was around the mid 10's. john, the guy who owns the pj saleen, raced him in the second race of the day. what a way to lose his track virginity, racing a viper . and i'll always represent wicked stangs at the track. i wished you guys could've been there. for the first couple of hours, i was basically hot lapping. look at the time on my time slips. one run is like at 10:02a, the next was 10:06a or something.

Ichiduo, thanks for the pics. Got some nice ETs there.

thanks. :) i know i could do better. if i had good tires and wasn't fighting traction all day, my 13.5 could've been my second run and i might have gone home with a 13.2 slip. oh well, gives me something to shoot for.

and my mach basically just has a c.a.i. and a bad tune. not too shabby though. :)

Vipers dont usually sound that mean. There was an ACR Viper at that car show in Fresno a while back and his car didnt even sound mean. The owner was even telling us that when it comes to exhaust tone, Stangs are at the top of the charts..

yeah, if my mach hooked as well as i reacted, i know i would've done a helluva a lot better.

most of the time, my r/t was on point. i reacted quicker than the person, just needed to hook and go. my plan is to get some 17's and some tires for them that way i have track and show tires.

me roasting my current tires (basically revved to 6600, then slowly down to 5000, 4000, 3000, 2000... then eased off the brakes to roll out..) is what got me to the 13.567 time. and at the track, i could only foot brake to 2200 before my tires started breaking lose.

learned a LOT today about my mach. she seriously has some untapped potential. 13.567 with basically a c.a.i., a bad tune, and crappy tires. imagine if i fixed that... i'd be in the low 13's, hopefully. not many auto machs can do that.

Hey Ichiduo,

I have an auto, too. Do you shift on the track or just leave on drive? I'm trying to figure out the shifting part and at what RPM. I'm pretty sure your mach shift point would be different from my GT, but just trying to figure out techniques.

Renegade,

I may be getting a couple of rims for free, they are 17X8s. What size of DRs can I get and how much? Not sure if I want to go straight slicks.

Sorry Ichiduo. Just a matter of convience. Not meaning to hijack the thread.

i leave my car in drive. and my mach has the same tranny as your gt. well, yours may be a 4r70w... dunno when they started switching the 04's to 4r75w's... but the difference is 50 foot pounds of torque the tranny can handle (i've been told).

basically, my strategy is (now) get in the water box and roast your tires... depending on what you have will determine how long you roast them. me having crappy tires, i needed to roast them a bit so they'd get sticky enough as to where they'd hook when i launched my car.

second part is staging. i inch up slowly until the top four lights are on and i foot brake to whatever my tires will handle. all day basically i just revved until the tires started to break, and then eased off a bit.

after i got a good hold of where my rpm's should be, i held it there and watched the christmas tree again... i waited for the three yellow lights to slowly light up... on the third light, i let off the brake, and push the throttle the rest of the way and do not let off until i'm clear the signs at the end of the track.

i drive with overdrive on and with traction control off.

hope that helps. :)

Thanks. That helps. I, too drive with the overdrive on and trac control off. I have street tires right now. I only can get up to about 3000 rpm when I roast them (I may be doing it wrong) and the rpm start to drop off at that time. and I launch at about 2000 rpm, it seems thats when it starts to break.
I'll try what you do next time I get on the track. Thanks again for the help.
