GT400 In your case what i would do is send it back to whipple have them set it back to stock. Then take the car with your tuner to one of local tuners and have them tune your car on the dyno. That way at least you can add to your tune and mod the tune.

Hmmm.........Only TWO major problems with that.

1) It won't run on the stock tune and

2) It costs $150 to change it back to stock.

I need your EEC code from your cars computer which should be on a little white sticker on the computer, if not I can try to help you determine it.
I believe I located the code. It's a four digit code, and right next to it, it says "EEC-V". If nothing pops up, I should be able to send it out to you tomorrow! Thanks again!

Sounds like a road trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Or a mail order tune if someone knows the answer to my question.

Either that or a local tuner.

One local tuner (Dante) said that he could write a custom tune and leave all the user adjustable parameters open so I cold make minute changes to things like timing, gears, wheel size, etc (all the things you would NORMALLY be able to change) and that he would put my Whipple tune in the XCAL (in case I ever wanted to revert back to it).

This leads me to "believe" that you can flash your ECM with a tune and SWAP PLACES with the Whipple tune as if it were the "stock" tune. How would the XCAL know if the tune being replaced is factory or not?

Does it even care?

I hear that a lot with Supercharged cars. It can be hard to dyno tune a car, and then have the patience and $ to pay someone to let it sit until its fully cold again and tune the low end tables, plus the computer ignores the sensors in the warm-up sometimes.

They may have your fans set to a balls to the walls setting, and might actually be on before warmed up, dunno. Did you lower the T-stat by chance too? With an aluminum block you typically don't want to go below a 180* T-stat and I see a lot of people popping 160* in there a lot on some aluminum blocks.

No I have not changed the T-stat but, I am pretty sure they tuned my fans balls to the walls setting. The first tune I had was very nice idle and felt right now I tried a different tuner and made everything agressive, I think.. Can you read the tune on my SCT to see what he did?

GT400 I think all they do is copy the tune from your ecm to the tuner and they make a new one to be installed. I believe the excal3 is able to hold 3 different tunes. For example on my tuner Dante saved the tune I have from greg and made his tune and flashed the ecm. So I could swap tunes anytime I want.

I know it wont run but that is what I am saying you can take it to a shop here and have them tune the car. I don't know I think it would be worth it to get to change tune ect. What if you add a pully do you have to change your tune do to it spinning faster or what ever? What about gears? I hope you solve problem

I don't have a "problem" to solve. Just asking a question. If it won't run on the stock tune after spending $150 PLUS shipping, how do I "take it to a shop"?

Add $200 for towing?

I don't NEED a tune, I have a tune that works fine. I just want to know if when I hook up the XCAL and upload a tune into the car, what happens to the Whipple tune that's already in there? It's amazing that in two pages of this thread no one can answer this!

GT400SC your tune will go away period.

It doesn't go into the XCAL, they don't trade places?

If that's the case, and it just "goes away", then it's very risky to order a tune and try to upload it, right?

If your new tune doesn't work, you're stranded because you don't have the previous tune to fall back on and re-upload to your car.

Maybe another question would be: Modular, do your tunes require the vehicle go back to stock or have a stock tune in them BEFORE uploading one of your tunes? If not, does the tune you write, email to the buyer and is then uploaded into their XCAL and subsequently into the buyer's car REPLACE whatever tune is in there or OVERWRITE it obliterating the previous tune (stock or otherwise)?

No. Your Whipple Tune will be stored as your "stock" tune. So you may return to stock anytime you choose.

I thought you said "it goes away, period"!

I am so confused....

Thanks E, for your insight into this!

It goes away and your using the mail order tune.. If you don't like it... It will revert back to the Whiipple tune.

OK, I think I get it. By "goes away", you mean it's stored in the XCAL2. "Goes Away" means not IN the car, but IN the Xcal.

Got it!

Thanks E, I'm an old fart, excuse my ignorance.

I told you this in the first post! That it will stay in your tuner and you just go to the custom tunes scroll through to the one that you want they sent and put it into the vehicle. When you said go back to stock I thought you ment bone stock. Your whipple will store as your factory/safe tune you can always put it back in car. Maybe I didnt explain well enough. I explained that your tuner will store the tunes from your car. My tuner has the orriginal STOCK tune 3 diablo tunes, and 3 bama chip tunes. MAN GT you got to quit smokin that crap its going to your head JUST KIDDING WITH YOU!

Sorry Phil, I guess I misunderstood. I could have sworn I said stock as in the way it was driving it off the Ford lot somewhere in a previous post. I also think I used the term "factory tune" also.

A 1000 apologies.

Some tuners will tell you the ECU MUST be BONE STOCK before they will touch it and I don't have that luxury.
