So as you guys know I recently bought a high performance (yeah right) 91 Honda Civic in order to get a GT500 when I get off cruise.

Well, since I have been driving it, it has ran like a champ. It starts every time. No knocks, no miss fires , no leaks, nothin....
The other day the car stalled on me and when I tried to start it up, it fired up as usual but immediately stalled again. I tried to start it again and again but no joy....
I thought it might be a fuel issue so I changed the Fuel filter. It work the started and I drove it home. When I got home, I turned it off and tried to start it again.... Same ****! It fired up and stalled. So, I replaced the air filter, spark plugs and cap and rotor since I had them already in preparation for a tune up. The car started after that and I drove around the block several times NOOO Problems at all. When I arrived back at my house I shut her down and attempted to start it again.... Same **** again.

What do you guys think???

Its a 91 Honda Civic 144,000mi, 5-speed manual, 1.6L fuel injected

Same thing happened to my '91 InfinityG20. Don't remember exctly what it was but I will look up the repair report tomorrow and see if it has any info you can use. I don't know how to work on my own cars ...YET.. but I will learn. I'll get back to you tomorrow.

not a starter cause it does start up but does not stay running for more than 3 seconds.
I think it has to be a fuel issue or maybe an ignition module.

i wonder if it could be a crankshaft sensor or even a RPM signal problem... any check engine light?? sounds to me to be a wiring problems just cause it is intermittent. I would check the wires to ever sensor to make sure they are all connected and TIGHT!.. you might find something easy

oh also i think the hondas are know for IAC problems... most of the time it just idles ****ed up not really idles then dies

Crankshaft position sensor. I'll put money on it.
You just described exactly what happened to my Lightning last year.

Interesting. I would put a fuel pressure gauge on your fuel rail and see if it dropping when you shut it off and if it comes back on after you turn the key on. No need to start it just trun the key on. If the pressure does not raise i would say you have a problem with your fuel pump. Other than that i would do as they have said and check all sensors.

Yea with out really sitting down and dignosing the car i will bet it is ethier the crankshaft sensor or RPM signal

the only reason im not total condemning the crankshaft sensor is because it runs fine till he turns it off.... then it wont start... probably just a loose connection.. I feel if it was the crankshaft sensor it would never start...

its also a speed density car so it could also be a MAP problem... not reading manifold pressure at times...

Bad news is that the crank pos. sensor on this car is not sold separatly... I would have to get the whole distributor.

well now im thinking its not the crankshaft sensor... you might want to start looking in to the fuel system... next time it doesnt start... turn the key to the on position for about 5 seconds then off again and repeat a' couple times ..... then try to start it.. if that works its could be the fuel pump... that's just an easier test for fuel pressure issues then having to find a fuel pressure tester... all your trying to accomplish is getting the pump pressure were it needs to be so it will start.... im not saying crank the engine over... just to the on postion not the run position...

ok...everyone, this happened in my 89 civic with the 1.5L. there is no crankshaft position sensor so dont worry about that. when mine did this it started by just occationally stalling and restarting, until one day it just stopped and would do anything. turned out the distributor itself was to blame. something wrond with the gears or something. have that checked out because i am 90% positive that this is the same problem. (same car, same problem)

I would go to a junk yard and get one first rather than buying a new one. Atleast if it fixes it and then does it again down the road you will know to buy a new one.

yea buy if you buy a crap one from the junk yard you still have no idea if it is the problem or not
