motor install

first let me say im new around here. im a permanent member of socal stangs, and a few of the members recomended me post here. i own a 1998 cobra. ive met a few of yall a couple of weeks ago while i was installing gears in my cobra, at mcas miramar. thats where im stationed at so obviously thats where i do most of my work. alright so now to the point. i have recently bought a forged shortblock from a friend of mine, emerson, (roorstiles), the owner of last call racing. me and him are assembling it here before long and bolting up a p1sc procharger. today/ yesterday me and another friend pulled the motor in preporation for the new motor. this was my first pool and i learned a lot, but obviously not all that i could have. the way that we pulled it was remove the drive shaft and pulled the tranny, motor, and k member through the bottom. so im looking for advise on the install. and if possible a helping hand when it comes time for it here in about two- three weeks. i dont know if pulling a motor from the bottom like that is the best way to do it or if its better to do it from the top. should i reinstall the tranny and motor seperately or together? any advise or help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you not the one that was going to put a 351w in that car? Did they talk you out of it? So Emerson can build an engine, but doesn't know how to install it?

ears welcome to Wicked Stangs lot of knowledgeable people on here.. You can pull it both ways. I have always pulled out the tranny first than the engine but, that is a preference thing.

and actually im quite sure he does know how to install. however im looking for the other ways people tend to do it. i know everybody does things differantly, and i want differant views and opinions. for instance i have long tube bbk's and quite frankly theyre the most difficult thing to bolt up in the entire world....... in my absolute nonprofesional opinion. so any way to reinstall the new motor with the long tubes on is the way ill probably go. ive had three exhaust leeks with those things in the past two months, so while its out i want to make sure that theyre on there for the long haul

the only problem with that for me would be my headers. im pritty set on installing the motor with the headers on, and they would get in the way of the starter flare on the bell housing!! thanks for the input

I go on socal to look at the classifieds and saw your post and read it.

Seeing the light? So, let me get this straight............Emerson made you see the light and then you bought all of the parts from him? Talking someone out of doing something original is not really seeing the light.

Please explain how he made you........." see the light" You've got me curious.

Longtubes, you will have to left the motor and install them.. Make sure you get new bolts taht go with the longtubes.. The factory won't work. And I believe they do make the locking type for the 98's..

people person, sounds like it. jk. no i talk to emerson all the time ive bought parts from him before and hes also given me free advise so, honestly id rather buy from no one else. so what im trying to say is when we were talking we werent talking about what parts i should buy from where. we were talknig and i asked what i could do for a set up he recommended. so wither way he was makin money in some way whether i was buying modular parts from him or i was doing an oldschool pushrod conversion. and by the way not to sound like a **** but if you read the post you also saw all the other people that were saying the same thing he said, before he said it, that had nothing to gain from any of it, so the fact that he sold me the parts, and made me one hell of a deal about it i might add, really has nothing to do with the waluable advise and help that he, pierre ( ill bet he wants to sell me something too), and all the other people on socal gave. )they may just want to sell me their own old used junk)

I'm not saying they are bad people, but he probably does LOL!

I didn't read all of what was on Socal, but I was actually excited to hear that you wanted to drop a 351w in that thing. It's ashame that they talked you out of it. It would have been badass.

well dude read it before you coment on it, no offense, but that aint cool man. em is a good guy, he does good buisness, and hes just trying to help out a guy that doesnt know quite as much as some. in the end though a 351 would require an entire revamp of the snake, including a new tranny. and quite honestly im putting alot of work into it and getting just slightly more power than i am now, possibly. and on top of that the possabilities arent quite what they are with my cobra engine

Whatever, I'm going to leave this one alone. I'll talk to you when I meet you in person. Then the things that I'm saying won't sound so bad. That is the problem with the internet.

Anyway, like I said I'm just upset that they talked you out of something that would have been badass. If that offends you sorry.
