New Best at Barona 7.26

I decided to take the GT500 out to Barona yesterday. I wasn't feeling real good and I haven't had time to put any parts on the car, but my son was really looking forward to it.

I knew I would do terrible, so I just ran my street tires and didn't put my DR's on. It was just for fun or so I thought.

As it turns out, the track was in near perfect conditions and my first run out seemed strong, but I had one MAJOR problem during the run, when I hit it off the line, the throttle "STUCK OPEN".... I had terrible wheel hop and tried to lift my foot, but it stayed at full open throttle. At that point, I figured I had no choice but to ride it out wide open and nailed 2nd gear which made the car slam HARD! Hit 3rd pretty good. The very fact that I hit 3rd so early in the run made me realize how fast I was moving. The stuck throttle resolved itself before the end. To be honest, it was a wild ride and it scared the crap out of me.

When I got my time slip, I was very shocked to find.....

ET 7.266
MPH 95.708
60ft 1.62
RT .170

A few things. The car is bone stock except for exhaust. Street tires at 35psi. I am not even sure this is possilbe in a stock GT500.

I would never have trashed the car like that, so the car became possessed and decided to take over the run and let me know how it is done. Now I got to take it to the shop and find out why this happened.

I must admit, it did scare me. Not so much during the run, I think because I was too busy just dealing with the situation. It hit me afterwords, I was pumped and hyper. Damn "bly by wire" crap on new cars.

It really wasn't as dangerous situation as it might seem, because I was already expecting full throttle. I knew i had plenty of time before the end of the track. Worse case was just to push in the clutch and turn off the ignition.

I am more concerned about it happening during normal driving on the road. Because it is electronic, who knows what it might decide to think I want while "slowly" pulling from a light. If mashes the gas, now that could be dangerous!

As it sits..... It helped me put down an incredible time:lol:

why would you ever take your foot of the gas running down the 1/8 or 1/4 anyways...

anyways glade your safe and hope the fix is easy... that's the first i have ever heard of someone having a throttle issue with the Fly by wire.. they normally pay such close attention to that part just because of the problem you just had!

7.2 is frickin awesome man!

I cant believe you put down a 1.6 60 foot on street tires! WOW!!

just goes to show how effective powershifting is. Very impressive, 7.2 bone stock.

The wheel hop... if you are hooked up solid, I agree....but wheelspin or wheel hop like i had will either break something or put you into the wall if you don't peddle it. which I tried, but the car had other ideas.

I guess I am somewhat in disbelief....I have been looking at other times for GT500's, and I just don't think it is possible for me to get that time. I will post up my timeslip. It is def me and my number on the slip, but I have to wonder if there was a timing tower mistake.

The tower made a mistake at mustangs vs the world on my 1st run. It said I ran a 6.2 @90mph! Turned out that the tower was 1 second off.

1.6 on street tires!??? :hmmmm2: Hmmmm,.......Did you make any other passes?

Yes that is a crazy 60 ft I agree. What where your other times? I pulled a 1.8 60ft before on street tires but that was frying the crap out of the and it was at ArmDrop where they spent a full day preping the track

LOL damn bobby.....................

yea that would make more sense being off 1 second that would make it a 8.266 and a 2.6 60 foot with the wheel hop he is saying he had!

I thought about that...but all the numbers on the slip add up.

I did make four passes, but on two of them I missed second gear (got to get rid of that stock shifter) and they were in mid 8's. The last pass, I bogged off the line and it layed down and I ended up just coasting in.

This is a tough tough car to drag race. I have raced hundreds of times with my previous mustangs and this one is by far the hardest. Launch to hard...wheel hop, lauch to soft...bog. I got to get these parts put on!

That 7 sec run was very violent with wheel hop, but it did hook hard. and when I hit 2nd it dam near pulled the car sideways.

I normally am shifting into 3rd right before the finish line. In fact, I can keep it in 2nd but I hit the rev limiter just before the finish line. This time i was about 3/4 track when I needed to hit 3rd.

Anyways...below is the timeslip. I would like to believe it is true, but I just don't think so. Just goes to show, just because someone has a time slip, doesn't mean it is fact. I will know more on 4/3 when I go out there loaded for bear. DR's, Control Arms, and a new shifter.

The track was extremely sticky. I use to race drag bikes, so I can say from experience, it was one of the best tracks I have been on for traction. Everyone was pulling better then expected 60fts all day. I don't know what they did to it, but I hope they have it like that at the next event.

Man I am in no way trying to say you didnt run what your slip says but isnt the mph low for a 7.2 in a blown car. I ran 7.5 at 98 so your 7.2 at 95 just seems backwards. I applaud you for taking your beast out there and running and hope for your sake that you did get a 7.2. Those are awesome times. Hell I cant get better than a 1.6 on an IRS car with MT ET streets and no wheel hop so you must have done something right. Like I said I am not doubting you or your car I just wanted to give my opinion. BTW how close was the race between you two on that race. Was he side by side with you or a car length ahead?
