so the other day on the way to the meeting eveyone said my car started smoking at full throttle, and i thought it was because of my pedal sticking prior in the day and breaking something in my engine, but today i was driving a long and i smelled oil really bad. looks like its comming from the back of the lower intake manifold. smells bad and is a ***** to fix, but really isnt expensive or hard to do. just wondering if anyone wants to come over and help me tear into it sometime this week and get it fixed before my parents come.

I will help you if you want bro. Its not hard at all.... there is a rubber gasket that is curved that seals the rear. It maybe worn out. You can replace it or you can put gasket sealer or maker back there seen it done that way as well.. I will help you if you want just let me know when

When you stuck the throttle open it may have created alot of pressure in there and just popped that rear gasket piece out....I remember those rear pieces on a 302 being a ***** toi get to stay in place real good. Most of the time I hear people dont use them they use some kind of liquid gasket stuff. I do not know how well that works but just another option.

thats what i used when i replaced the intake. those rubber ones are junk, i used high temp RTV. i think your right gibs, when the throttle stuck that there was too much pressure and popped it out or something.

well in my automotive class the permatex guys came to talk to us about their product... what they said is the colored gasket products (blue red and orange) they make are no longer any good. they only gasket maker you want to use is black or gray.... black seals anything with oil... everything else use gray... also they have this new stuff called RIGHT STUFF that comes in a easy dispense container...

so if you use the red high temp thats why it leaked.... can't with stand the oils of today..

when you do it again, run a bead no wider then half the width of the part your sealing...

1/3 the width is the cleanest..

old vavoline isnt the same as it was 5,10 or even 20 years ago... it is equal to what its was then, but now much better... the additives change damn near every year...

i'll probably end up using those stupid seals w/ some sort of rtv. it never leaked until the other day when my pedal stuck and pegged out my tach

but really beejay... just get the black tube of RTV and run a nice 1/4 inch bead and you will be good... glob up the corners...

you can use the right stuff... but you don't need it

ok, so i dont know what is up. took the car out today and no leak or smoking of any kind. even got on it a bit. didnt bring it all the way up, only to like 4500, but still, you'd think it woudl smoke like before from behind the intake. nothing at all. maybe it got hot when i drove it nicely and resealed itself. the thing is its all clean back there like there was no leak to begin with. we'll see how it is durring this week. im also thinking it might be that stupid vaccuum line that i ghetto rigged to work that comes off the lower intake and runs to the upper....but that was tight too, so who knows

not really ghetto rigged. on the old intake you would screw in a PVC connector and it would have a line attached to it. on the new intake there is a fitting sticking out. i had to buy a rubber grommit that fit over the fitting that sticks out of the new intake. i sealed it with RTV and connected the line back to it.

okay....more bad news...i was wrong. the oil leak is still there. i looked under my car and there is oil spots on the ground. i was thinking rear main, but there is multiple drips on the ground....would that still be normal. i mean, i was driving it, it coulda splattered. could that have caused the oil smoke comming up behind my intake. anyone got any ideas? how hard is it to fix?
