Time to paint again!

GT400SC

Pulled off the keyed fender. This takes about 15-20 minutes at a relaxed pace. Then used the heat gun to remove the fender badge and stripe.

I have to sand, prime, sand, paint, wet sand and polish...just like I did with the hood.

Here we go again!

Several months ago, a Sheriff's Deputy stole all the money in our Homeowner's Association bank account. I turned him in and he got arrested. After he got out on bail, "somebody" keyed the Stang and I fixed the door but the front fender was too deep to polish out so I have to repaint. Picked up another quart of DAR9000 PPG last week for $56.00.

So, now that he no longer lives here, I feel safe enough to fix it.

Where's Mr. Glock when you need him? That's why I installed IR cameras all over the house.

Here's the story. They named me in the story after I asked them NOT to. Thanks media!!!

Notice that after removing the fender, I put the wheel back on in case the jack stand fails. Safety first!

Well, gotta go sand! I want to paint later this week!

Let's see....

42 months old this month and 5664 miles. What is that, 135 miles per month?

Nah, it's in the garage 99% of the time. Not my daily driver.

Yeah, it's almost as clean as new. Hell, it is like new! One of these days when the car is 10 years old, someone is going to say, "How is it that you only have 10,000 miles on it?"

Yeah, it's VERY low mileage and VERY clean. In three and a half years, I've changed the oil once. At 5000 miles.

Don't you guys remember in my hood painting thread I told you that manufacturers put the bare minimum of paint on cars? Maybe you believe me now?

Paint day

Here's my smaller 4 ounce paint gun. I mixed about 16 ounces of paint and filled the paint gun 4 times, one fill for each coat (4 coats).

Here's the fender sanded, ready to prime. Sanded with 400 grit paper.

After masking and priming with black Duplicolor primer.

And finally painted.

This will cure for a week or so before wetsanding and polishing, just as was done with the hood. Then the badge goes back on as well as the stripes being replaced. Then, back on the car!

Thanks guys...

I try to do better than factory work. I lay down a LOT more paint than the robots at Ford. When you wetsand and polish, you remove paint, so, you HAVE TO lay down extra paint.

That looks awesome. I took 2 years of autobody in high school and have painted two complete mustangs. And I worked at a custom autobody shop back in Mich. I never really thought to much about painting in my garage. But, now I am seriously considering it. Thanks alot GT400............LOL
