Tire Fitment 01 Bullitt

GT400SC

PM for Decals
Since this car is not my specialty, I thought I'd do best by reaching out to you SN95 guys with a question about tires and fitment.

I have a lady friend with a blue 01 Bullitt (the rarest color) and she will soon be due for tires. She has chrome 17x8 Bullitts with 245/45/17s all around. This is the stock wheel size and works great for those who like to rotate their tires every oil change and maximize tire wear.

This next tire purchase, she wants to go with the staggered look as best she can on the stock wheels. She bought the chrome Bullitts replacing her painted Bullitts, so she wants to continue on the same wheels.

My question to you who are in the know, what's the fattest meat she can go all around without rubbing issues?

The best I can figure is 275/40/17s in the rear although it's recommended they be mounted on a rim at least 9 inches wide instead of her 8 inch rims. And 255/40/17s in the front.

Or would it be better to go 255 all around?

What's the best combo, safest and without issues of rubbing while turning, rubbing fenders, etc. The car is stock ride height, no lowering.

Thanks in advance!

Tim

Doesn't necessarily have to be from a Bullitt owner. Pretty much any SN95 owner can pipe in.

she should be able to squeeze 275 out back and add a spacer to help give it more of a staggered look. the finder wells of 94-04 mustangs will hold a pretty fat tire outback.
if she bought a set of 17x10.5's she could run 315's out back and 275's up front with 17x9's.

i've seen a mach1 run 335' out back w rolled fenders

i'm running 255 up front on 17x9's with 1/8 in spacers and 315's on 17x10.5's w/ 1/8 or 1/4 in spacers out back. thats with irs, i could hold a bigger tire with a sra

No they can't

Above are the specs between the Bullitt and "any SN95"

Notice the brake caliper and rotor size differance.

As I mentioned, she's going to continue using the SAME chrome Bullitts she has on her car. My question is what are the maximum size tires she can get away with on those same 17x8 rims and not have any issues?

Brakes should NOT be of any concern at all. Not changing rims.

Wondering where I am!?!?

That is why I mentioned IMBOC, the Bullitt sits 3/4" lower than the standard SN95 GT. There are people over there that have done what your friend is asking to do.

I don't want to cut and paste a answer from over there, your friend buys the tires, they rub and I get my ass in a sling.

Thanks BOTH of you. I didn't know the Bullitt is lower! That is why I ask you guys!
Now I'm wondering if she can get away with 255s in the front? I have them on my car but these are two different animals entirely.

Will rubbing while turning (or otherwise) be an issue with 255s on the front?

As far as 275s on the back, that would be great but like I said in my original post, 275s are recommended on a 9" inch rim. Is it REALLY that big of a no-no on 8" rims or is 255 better for the back on an 8" rim?

Your welcome and sorry I got my panties in a bunch!

I just get tired of people saying the Bullitt is a modified body on a SN95 frame.

There are small differences that can bite you when buying parts, I have found that out the hard way!!

She can run 255's up front and 285's out back. I did it with my Gt with no problems. The back tires kind of balloon'd a little but not enoigh to hurt anything.
