What Performance Mods do I start with?

I have a 89 AOD convertable with 65k on it. This weekend I did a tune up; plugs, wires, cap, rotor, oil and flushed the tranny. Now that I have done the tune up what MODS are the best to start with. It has magnaflow exhaust but other than that it is stock. I am sure that this has been covered about 100 times but I need some help! Thanks!

remember he as a 89 AOD, gears are a good choice but, your overdrive is very weak and needs to be upgraded as well....

Should I do a shift kit first? What about bolt on MODS to the motor?

Shift kit is a good choice, but to put gears on your AOD your going to have to upgrade your OD gears its plastic. Get a good set of pulleys and exhaust and your on your way... If I was you I would get a system max package from summit and call it a day...

Your not going to get good "take off power" with a stock aod. But you can have fun downshifting it and taking off. Honestly if I were you, sounds like you have a nice running, low milage fox body. I would keep it near stock and save up for something else unless this is your dream car. Near stock clean, nice running foxes are hard to come by nowadays. But to anwser your question on the mods, headers h pipe and gears are some of the first best ones to do.

It is a low mileage car but it needs a top and the body needs work with a fresh paint job. It's not worth keeping it stock.

You can get great take off power with an aod but it will require the rite gears and torque converter. Power will be important to backl it up and traction. My aod was 7.5 which is respectable. A built tranny might be in order though if he gets a little more serious at the track.

If I didn't have a wife and two kids I would! This is just my side car to play with. I think that I am going to invest in the 3.73 gears. I have never done them but I am sure that I can figure it out.

you are better off paying someone. Most people dont have the tools required to do gears.

I bought my gears and install kit from American Muscle for $225 with a 6% discount code and had a friend who worked for Ford for 10 years install it. I paid him $200. I went with 4.10's and I love it!
