I have thought hard about what i want my car to have and i have decided to take it to the next level, Im in need of a stock 4r70w transmission out of a new edge mustang, i have a 3650 and if your open to trades im game, LMK if you know some one or have a 4r70w laying around, the tranny has to be from a mustang(ie 99-04 only)....

wow, thats a big change. I would only go that route if I was in the 6's and wanted to be real consistent. I think That takes the fun out of racing. Unless youre competing for money.

A new member, my best friend, might be interested in a swap. Your tranny is broke though right? He is glockman36 if you want to shoot him a pm about it.

Not to pee pee on your parade,:rofl::rofl: but I want you to be FULLY informed on what you want to do.

1. Unless you go manual valvebody, your computer will have a hard time shifting the car at the rpm to need AND doing all the calculations it will have to do with the new engine combo, since it's pretty slow. And it would take a pretty good tranny tuner to make it work.

2. You will have to build the tranny for your hp you plan to run. A stock tranny will not hold up and especially the converter. I want you to know this because I just hate seeing people spend good money in the wrong place. I have a guy that builds all of our NASTY 4R70/75W in Indiana that hold 900 RWHP. He can build your tranny and converter to any level that you need. If you're interested, just shoot me a PM and I'll give ya his number and if you're serious about getting one from him, I can call him and tell him to hook ya up.
You WON'T be disappointed.

Mach1....I have a 4r70W, what is the going rate of getting one build up. Just a general ball park figure. I'm going to go with a 2400 stall converter.

Are you just wanting more consistency? I would build a t56 or something. That would keep from having to change your ecu out. Are you gonna shooting for 6's?

wow, I think That takes the fun out of racing.

In my opinion it is exactly the opposite and no offense atl, but statements like this usually come from those who have never driven a built automatic.

I have a blast driving my car and I think it's way more fun going fast than missing shifts and smoking clutches, but that's just me.

Eric, in my opinion I would get a hold of a 4R70W if that's what you want and get it built here locally. That way if anything goes wrong you could either drive it to the shop or take it there and not worry about paying shipping for something that weighs 200lbs.

Like I already told you before get a manual valve body w/transbrake because we all know how you love to race. You will need a good converter to get it all working together for you. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong here, but if you get a manual valve body you shouldn't need to mess with the computer.

It all comes down to budget, intentions and how fast you want to go?

Oh yeah.....Atl keeps asking about 6's. With the engine set up, added boost, intercooler and an Auto should very likely = 6's :)

hopefully 6's, im not really trying to be more consistant, i feel i have a better chance at seeing the engines true potential with an auto rather then a stick

yeah one of the guys told me that unless i use a manual VB the computer would have a hard time shifting so yes i will be using one the man. VB's to simplify thing's, i finally was able to get a hold of jay allen on SBFT, i started a thread and told him that i was going to do an auto swap and he replied saying that he had a set of cams designed and told me that is a big change so he will have to redesign the cams for the heads, but the reason i haven't heard any thing was because i haven't paid him so basicly i need to pay pal him 625 plus shipping...yeah Bobby you are right about buying here thanks for the insight....

My guy is close by the time I saw the post. I'll get some prices tomorrow for you guys.
Believe me, when you get one built buy this guy, you won't need to send it back for QUITE a while. His stuff stands up to abuse.
I can check with a guy in Cali that built the TT Mustang's tranny.
You can go to Summit to get the shifter if you go with the manual 4r70W and get a B&M Hammer. I used that for several seasons in my Mach with my c-4 and they make one for the 4R70W also.
Who ever ya go with on the tranny, make sure they do the rear bearing oiling mod. It's VERY much needed in these trannys.
Also on the converter, don't be afraid to go with a GOOD stall. Remember, you should still get a converter with lock up!

Almost forgot. I'd shy away from the AODE and that price was a bit high for a used tranny.

ok cool, thanks for the input, bobby said it best, buy local and get it built local, easier to deal with the shop that way, BTW some one told me to do the "J MOD" on the tranny, do you get what he is talking about?

I'd like to drive a built auto. If my car was 100% drag and I was in the 6's maybe low 6's. Id def have an auto. I still wanna have fun on the streets with the manual. Maybe you should trailer you car to sc, and give me a ride. LOL I;m not a hater of autos. Just prefer manual. Going with auto takes the driver mod out of the equation. You just hit the gas. I'm trying not to be neive. But ive only known manual shifting racing.

Manual valve body is just that....MANUAL! You still have to shift, but there is no clutch. Like I said before..Do you want to go fast or do you want to worry about missing shifts and smoking clutches etc.?

To each their own. I too use to think like you and was afraid to make the switch. Then I said F-it and went auto and didn't look back.
