Yet another attempt at a better 60'

Before I installed my transbrake today I installed some new rear springs. After doing some extensive research on why I get my best 60' with my adjustable shocks set at 0. I found out that all stock springs were not created equal!

As it turns out the springs that are the best for drag racing are stock springs from 84-93 NON GT springs. They can be from a V6 or V8. NO 4banger springs and NO GT springs!

The 84-93 springs are 160lb springs. The SN95 springs that I was using were 220lb springs. Way too stiff !! Especially for my relatively light car.

Swapping the springs should give me some adjustability of the rear. By having a softer spring I should be able to fine tune the rear shocks now. Where as before it was 0 or lose time in the 60'. This will be especially helpful with the addition of the transbrake in case it hits the tires too hard.

The Fox springs are actually taller than the SN95 springs. By the way I purchased the Fox springs from the junkyard for $20 and then blasted them and had them painted at work.

Also the only rubber bushing that still existed on my car were the rear lower control arm bushings. I removed one bushing to give to a friend of mine who owns a mill. He is going to machine me 4 new bushings out of aluminum and then everything on the car will be solid.

Did you remeasure your rear suspension to find what your anti squat is at after the new springs?

The control arms have screwdrivers holding them up until I get the bushings machined. After that I will adjust the suspension again because the ride height will have changed. I'll have to dial everything in again. This suspension stuff is very tedious work.

good stuff! This is what you were mentioning at the track.

As I was saying with my car yesterday. I have 220 pounders (same as stock) that also lowered the car. I set my rear shocks to 2 (from 3) yesterday at the track after your suggestion to try to get more bite. But I hit the bump stop after doing that. It made for interesting launch.

I think my rears are sagging and I might replace them. My car is much heavier then yours at 3400 pounds. What would you suggest on the springs? 160 pounders?

Remember, I also have the M & M adjustable lower control arms. So I can adjust up, but they are almost maxed out now, which is why I think my rear springs are sagging.
