I'm interested to either the Public Relations or Historian position. Whichever you think I'm more suited for.

Me too! I'd probably relate to the PR position better than anything else.
I would list all my real life qualifications here but I would fill up the rest of this page.

Chairman, (current) City of La Mesa Human Relations Commission

Former Public Information Officer, for a large government law enforcement agency.

President, (current) Local homeowner's assn.

Blah, blah, blah.....

This is a pretty decent summary of PR work and some of it can be adapted to our organization. PR people work hand in hand with Event Coordinators. The Event Coordinator sets up events and all the logistics for that event. The PR person makes sure the world hears about it, drafts press releases, contacts the media, advertises the event and is basically a go-between between the organization and the general public or media.

An organization’s reputation, profitability, and even its continued existence can depend on the degree to which its targeted “publics” support its goals and policies. Public relations specialists—also referred to as communications specialists and media specialists, among other titles—serve as advocates for businesses, nonprofit associations, universities, hospitals, and other organizations, and build and maintain positive relationships with the public. As managers recognize the importance of good public relations to the success of their organizations, they increasingly rely on public relations specialists for advice on the strategy and policy of such programs.

Public relations specialists handle organizational functions such as media, community, consumer, industry, and governmental relations; political campaigns; interest-group representation; conflict mediation; and employee and investor relations. They do more than “tell the organization’s story.” They must understand the attitudes and concerns of community, consumer, employee, and public interest groups and establish and maintain cooperative relationships with them and with representatives from print and broadcast journalism.

Public relations specialists draft press releases and contact people in the media who might print or broadcast their material. Many radio or television special reports, newspaper stories, and magazine articles start at the desks of public relations specialists. Sometimes the subject is an organization and its policies toward its employees or its role in the community. Often the subject is a public issue, such as health, energy, or the environment, and what an organization does to advance that issue.

Public relations specialists also arrange and conduct programs to keep up contact between organization representatives and the public. For example, they set up speaking engagements and often prepare speeches for company officials. These media specialists represent employers at community projects; make film, slide, or other visual presentations at meetings and school assemblies; and plan conventions. In addition, they are responsible for preparing annual reports and writing proposals for various projects.

Just a thought:

Tonight we should look at nominating people for these positions. Then we can post the names and let people from the chapter vote online. That way, the entire chapter will have a chance to vote. If there is a really crappy position, we can nominate someone who is not there and make them fill the position...LOL!!!

By the way. GREAT IDEA PRES. I'm certain that these positions will take on more duties and meaning once we get the organization rolling.

Dont worry, you will be nominated.......MUUUAAAHHHHHH

I actually hope so, I have great plans!

And Danny would be an AWESOME event coordinator and he and I work together well!

I have a lot of contacts in the media from my Public Information Officer time, TV, radio and print media. We could really launch this club's "second stage" and blow EVERY other club off the face of the planet!

For starters: The unveling and first public run(s) of our race car could be a HUGE event!!!! Make it a big publicity event!

Is there any need for a "Marketing Specialist" type person?

I forsee this club selling (besides decals) T shirts, bumper stickers, WS key fobs, ball caps (the list goes on). This (or these) person(s) would work hand in hand with the event coordinators and PR person.

This is the person who would set up a table and booth at an event and sell WS goodies.

Good fund raising possibilities!

I don't wanna be the historian! I'm too old! LOL

Just because I REMEMBER history doesn't mean I want to record it.
