Buying Some Headers

I want to know what headers to go with. I have a buddy of mine that says go Hooker Headers, but I want some more input first. I also need to find a set that will fit the GT40 aluminum heads.

i don't believe the GT40 aluminum require a special header ONLY the Gt40P does.... if that is correct i would go with a set of BBK equal lengths or a set of Kook long tubes... depends on what your trying to do or if CA emissions is a issue....

I second the BBK's. The thick flanges make them a better choice than the MACs. The equal lengths make changing the plugs a little tougher in a couple spots, but supposedly you'll see more power from them vs the unequals.

The BBK equal length are a good choice, but take a look at your exhaust flanges before you decide. The flanges of the BBK do not match up well with MAC exhaust....ask ears or 02GT, both experienced leak issues requiring mods. Just check the flanges and make certain they'll work with the new headers.

Did he already buy mac or is that what he has? I say go for the BBK headers and h or x-pipe with a flowmaster cat-back.

I say go with the BBK equal or unequal and go with a BBK mid pipe with mac Cat back...

My bbks for some reason had a bend at the ball flange, when orange did my clutch so.... may want to do some research about the headers, they are a good brand but some things are cheap for a reason.....

i also forgot, before you start choosing exhaust componets, make sure you get on youtube and listen to different setups, h pipe with a chambered muffler, x pipe with a blow through cat back things like that....

Well they are going to be catted, but I am still deciding between H-pipe or X-pipe.

I was listening to videos and It is so hard to decide, but I am leaning toward the X-pipe, anybody know the strengths of each?

Your problem wasn't the headers. It was the piece of s h i t mid-pipe that you bought. :) The dent was there because that was someones sorry attempt to get the x-pipe to seal.

Ethan,
BBK is a good quality header, 02 don't forget he has a real mustang that uses real headers, not a gay 4.6 :reddy:

I have always used BBK on all of my cars and the quality is great as well as the fit. In my opinion mac headers and h-pipes suck and like 02 said things are cheap for a reason. I do like their cat-backs though. Just listen to CWO's car! The Mac headers do not have a flange that ties all of the tubes together and they warp and then leak. Just my .10 cents

The MAC catback is awesome and I have a MAC prochamber for a midpipe...not a choice for you with cats....but a good midpipe and BBK headers is a good combo. I have JBA headers...they are decent....but equal length is the way to go.

Oh, and should I spend the extra for the ceramic coated headers, or just get the chrome ones?

Ceramic's keep heat in the headers and can reduce under hood temps. They also look better and last longer. Chrome ones will turn blue in the first week. If you have the cash get ceramic.

I thought you were going to fix that BS cat-back routing?
