clutch questions

so, after the track last week my car has been acting funny and i just want everyones input on what they think it might be. the car has always been hard to shift, it never slides into gear with ease, but now it seems harder to shift, and as far as the clutch goes...when the car is cold or when i first start driving it if teels like something is binding up the clutch pedal. it isnt smooth al the way to the ground, but when the car warms up it almost goes away. the clutch doesnt slip at all from what ive felt. anyone have any clue what could be causing this? its not the cable, we already checked that. thanks everyone

shifting for 5.0's is always tough and they usually grind but i dont know what the clutch could be beejay

Any smell of clutch material? Make you haven't got a bent or broken cable bracket that's moving when the cable moves. Maybe the pressure plate broke a spring during one of those patented beejay space shuttle launches... if it were me, and it bothered me like that, I'd tear into it and check the pressure plate, etc.

True, but you'd be feeling vibes in the shifter and hearing them, too. It would also start doing weird crap like popping out of second gear (my first Stang was notorious for bad synchros).

might not be the clutch but the syncros

yes, its a centerforce. and today for the first time it popped out of second when i went to shift to third. like it was trying to help me or something...lol

no clutch smell, just that annoying binding feeling, its just not smooth and really stiff, but like i said after driving for about 10 mins it gets smoother, almost like its gone, but i can still tell. i think it will break this weekend and i will get a new clutch and TOB and everything next week. i might even get a rebuild kit for the tranny and have that done too. see if i have the money and if the wife will let me. lol

Probably not the clutch. Probably the synchros are chewed up a bit and not holding it in gear as far as they used to. Does that make sense?

no, because the only weird feeling is the clutch....i understand the synchros are going but what could be the cause of the pedal feeling funny.

Well, that could be the shifter fork, possibly... but something tells me pressure plate spring(s). I bent one on my Camaro once, and it was an M22 Crusher. It also sounds like you have the same warranted paranoia about your car as I do with mine. I'm always afraid that I have hurt something when I really get into it and thrash it hard. So I can understand your concern.

sweet, i thought so. if i blow the tranny, the car will park until i get back from next pump. then it will probably go auto for a drag car, if not and i keep it a street car i want a T-56

i talk all big like i dont care if it breaks, but i really hope it doesnt. pray for her...lol

We are peas in a pod... I thought the exact same thing... if I nuke the 5 speed, it's getting a killer automatic with a honkin-ass stall convertor, cuz I DO NOT FEAR my 4.56's... LOL

I'm with ya, dude,

It sounds to me like you have two separate issues. First I'd be very careful because the binding that you are talking about sounds very familiar. My car had this feeling and shortly after my clutch cable snapped!! Check out your cable to make sure that it is not frayed at the pedal or at the clutch. If the cable is good, your adjustment may be out of whack. Does your stock pedal adjuster still work? If not you will have to manually adjust your cable under the car. How much play does your pedal have (up and down)?

2nd issue does sound like the syncros, but both issues (popping out of gear and binding)could be caused by the clutch being out of adjustment. If it is you will slowly start to smoke check that centerforce! Unless you fix it of course.

CHECK THE CABLE FIRST!
