Well Foxman,

Just so you know I'm an IS1, that means that I'm a Intelligence Specialist Petty Officer First Class. We do a lot of research and briefings to the higher ups everyday. A lot of what we do I could only tell certain people here in a special enclosed room. Work all day with a lot of different rated (rate means jobs) Sailors and Soldiers. My environment is always air condtioned and we (like Emilio) have a lot of free time. In my rate, it is real easy to deploy overseas to any base worldwide, the Amry, USMC, Air Force you name it. Got the chance to work with forgien military and diplomats. We in the IS rate have nice job security on the outside, fortune 500 companies, law enforcement, FBI, and other alphabet companies scoop us up all day long for 90k+ ayear with full benefits.

I'll list the reasons why I still love the Navy.

1) Get paid every two weeks and all I have to do is show up on time and do as I'm told.
2) Have never done the same job twice.
3) Never have to worry about what to wear for work everyday. Conform and you golden.
4) Have been deployed to a zone seven times so far, my eight time is coming up shortly.
5) Get extra pay to be married and to live off base. Get extra pay to deploy to a combat zone, not to forget tax free.
6) Great chances for a college education.
7) Retire at the age of 41
8) Work full time 24/7
9) If I die on duty, my wife will get over 1.5 Mil in monies for the different surviors funds that are out there.
10) Full medical and Dental benefits for life (if I retire in the service)
11) Best retirement program that a job can provide these days.
12) Instant friendships and comardarie with anyone military. Bonds that are amazingly strong as blood. And some of the greatest stories and story telling ever!
13) Autoshop centers that are awesome!
14) Exchange and commissonary priveleges

Now the list of why I hate the Navy.

1) Been away from home a lot in the last 10 yrs
2) Never off duty at all - work full time 24/7
3) You can't advance in pay faster then the system.
4) Someone else that you hardy know is always in control of where you go and what you do. You can ask to be in a certain area or doing a certain job but it is never 100% what you ask for. A lot of give and take but more giving on your side and taking by the Military. The needs of the service will always outweight your needs even if you have family.
5) No job in the military starts and ends easy - EVER. You will always be junior everywhere you go and Junior is JUNIOR
6) You have to follow the orders of morons, 90% of them are always going to be younger then you, no matter what, if you have a good Chief Petty Officer (CPO) or Staff Sergeant (SS) then you might be ok but never count on it.
7) your yearly evaluation is always assessed by someone else and they never understand what you do unless you have writing down what you did and been seen doing it.
8) I'll think of more

Well Mineman is wide the hell open and our force is centered around San Diego so if you like the area its a good choice. Basically we build and maintain underwater mines on shore duty and hunt and destroy them on sea duty. Sea duty is tuff cause we get little sleep but the shore duty is great. Only a few places left around the world for us though. We spend about 6 months in Bahrain and 1 year in the states.
Sea duty
1 San Diego
2 Japan
3 Bahrain

Shore duty
1 Seal Beach, Cali
2 Misawa, Japan
3 Charleston, SC

If you don't like the fact of going to Sea...CTR's don't even have a ship to shore rotation...they just put them where they need them. I have know people in this rate to never deploy in 14 years!!
